Just out of interest I chrono'd 6 shots with my Ruger Old Army earlier today - This is the 7.5 inch barrel and 30 grains of H777 by volume using a standard lead .457 ball.
What surprised me was it was averaging 1300 feet per second which is quite a bit higher than I expected.
I taped a target to the front of the chrono to stop the smoke cloud from triggering the sensors (get bizarre results without it) so I have to assume its fairly accurate in the reading.
Has anyone else chrono'd a similar setup, and what results did you see ?
