Carrying dangerous weapon to place of religious worship while a meeting for religious purposes is being held unless you have "good and sufficient reason." There is no known definition of what a good and sufficient reason would be. Violation is a minor crime, punishible by a fine of up to $100.
You don't want to die sounds like good and sufficient reason to me. If your pastor was cool with it, you are doubly safe. If he is not, find a new church.
Also, as to respect for the location, the Bible supports being and in defense of oneself. You should not do something outside of church you are ashamed or think is disrespectful inside a church. I carry when I go, and sometimes don't bother to really conceal very much. It is not one bit disrespectful to carry in a church.
It seems odd to ban concealed firearms in churches considering howmany shootings do occur in them. This year alone I can remember at least 4 or 5 thats resulted in multiple victims. It makes good targets to go after large groups especially from a single family and nutjobs are always going to do it. At least we caught this one before he blew his own brains out.
I've read and taken part in threads on various forums lately about carry in church. There is also movement about for churches to start their own security/safety teams. Either armed or unarmed, the mere presence of and observation by such a team can cause someone of criminal intent to consider another target. We started ours in January after 9 cars were broken into during a Wednesday-night service a few weeks before CHRISTmas.
