I like to browse GB on a daily basis for fun. In the last couple of months I was fortunate to grab a 1930 Colt Officer's model target 22lr that I posted about here, as well as a 1969 Smith & Wesson model 15. Both guns in excellent condition, paid around $800 for the Colt, $600 for the S&W. Browsing GB recently, everyone is trying to sell rusted/pitted examples for more than I paid for mine. At least I see no bids on most of these, but what are these sellers thinking?

My theory is all the appropriately priced guns were picked up during December, leaving the overpriced crap behind. Just venting.

I have done more private deals than the next 5 posters combined I reckon. I have noticed that all repeating firearms have gone up in price due to the election's, there have been some stability in things like single shot shotguns or milsurp bolt actions but I just saw a Norinco SKS go for 800. Gonna be like this until everyone settles down.

Not a revolver but na example of what I'm seeing. An ad on TGT that shows a Mossberg 500 (which normally I could get for 225 used pre kung flu) add an 80 dollar stock and 20-30 dollar heatshield and it's now 600 bucks, someone will buy it I'm sure. Just trying to make a couple bucks taking advantage of market conditions. It's called a free market system. Anybody can participate, or decline to participate. Free markets swing between advantage to the buyer and advantage to the seller. It's the nature of the beast. It's the best way to manage supply and demand. Be patient --- it will swing the other way.

I got a buddy trying to buy a mossberg 500 right now. I’m telling him to hold out, he’d be happy to buy one for $500 but they keep going over that in the final bid. Kind of crazy. If you’ve got patience it’ll settle back down, he has no urgent need to buy one and I’m hoping he’ll wait.

I’d love to see all prices start coming down, I imagine they will in 2-3 years or so when all the first time buyers consider selling.

The best deals I have been seeing are at pawnshops, I did see a model 1300 Winchester for 289 a few weeks ago granted it's still kinda high it's much better than the 600 this guy wants

I’ve snatched up four older S&W revolvers during the latter half of the year, a Model 14, 15 and two 66’es. All sold for between $425-$550, so they weren’t too nuts.

Now earlier in the year, Model 63’s were regularly going for North of $850. Those .22 auctions were nuts. I also saw a pretty worn SIG P6 sell for about $900 in October. That was nuts, too.

Stay safe.

I will kill and bury the body for a model 15 at that price right now...

If you have a good steel framed gun, and I am partial to revolvers, hang on to it. Now it seems all the new stuff is plastic. No thanks, I even re-purchased a small SS 22 revolver I sold a few years ago. Paid the guy more than I sold it for 6 years ago!!

Kinda wondering if sold my dan wesson too cheap.
Depending on when you sold it, and the model-caliber-barrel(s), maybe or maybe not.

I really want a .41 DW, I haven’t seen any one of those go for under $1,000 bucks for years. A clean blued 2-barrel set (4” and 8”) went for $1,900 ... I didn’t want to give the wife a stroke so I stopped bidding at $1,550. The stainless 741 can easily go for $1500 and up.

The 15-2 .357 is much more common, so those prices are less than the .41 across the board. I’ve seen single-barrel guns go from $450 up to over $1,000 depending on when it was listed, barrel and condition. clean Pistol Paks with 4 barrels and all the goodies have gone for North of $2,200.

My blued DW .22 LR 6” V model was won on Gun Broker for about $525 early in the year. As we’ve all seen, as the pandemic and urban stupidity went on the prices on used guns went way up. People in panic-mode bought out their local stores, when that well ran dry they got GB accounts and started bidding stupid money on anything that would shoot. (I can’t count how many NR or 1-2 feedback bidders outbid me all summer, there were dozens!!)

Almost anything selling at that time fetched a premium for sure. I don’t know if the buying mayhem of the summertime is still going on, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it was.

I've seen some insane asking prices, on GB. Look at what the guns sold for, it's usually quite a bit more reasonable.

IMO, a lot of folks on GB are either fishing, or seriously deluded, as to the value of their firearms. My guess, is generally, the former.

What is somewhat annoying is that one market affects the other; ie plastic wonder nines being scarce affecting the market of pre-WWII colts. I am very happy I grabbed my purchases just a couple of months ago and got what I thought were good deals. BTW, I bet prices will go even higher today, some fortunate souls should have gotten some stimulus funds today, and if you're not really in need for them, I'm sure they'll be thrown at some GB bids haha.

I belive it was a 15-2 8"vr in original box paperwork and barrel wrench in near perfect condition for $600 several months ago

To quote one LGS owner, “They’re buying anything with a trigger.”
I suspect the smart first time buyers-the ones smart enough to seek advice from gun owning friends-have scooped up the really nice classics and what’s left is still decent, just not as nice and way overpriced.
It will all sell eventually.

My youngest son who now lives in Florida ( I'm in Tx) bought a Mossberg 500 and paid $425 for it. I thought it was high but didn't say anything. We went down to visit and see his new house and it was a nice looking gun with a 24" barrel. So no just a SD gun but can still be used for hunting. I also gave hime a 7mm Mauser custom built rifle and ammo, a S&W model 915 and ammo, a Marlin model 60 and ammo and delivered his 20 ga and pump 22 so he is set for a beginning gun collection. But I told him from here on out the ammo is his problem.

On GB now I won't bid on a gun unless its a seller that has multiple guns of the same kind for sale. I am tired of competing with NR or first time buyers who will give away the farm to get a gun. I just bought a Ruger EC9 but it came from a dealer that had 15 in stock with a fixed price. No bidding just hit the Buy Now button. I have a couple of LCPIIs on my watch list that are selling the same way.

But the good news is that it looks like its slowing down on gun sales. Ammo like 9mm and 380 are still high and selling for crazy prices. So are 38 and 357.

But prices on the older revolvers are out of my price range. I looked at some of the new Classic versions of the S&W model 29 and the new prices aren't much worse that what the old guns are selling for. And some of the old guns are way past the new gun prices. I would probably just buy the new gun and forgot the old version.

We just got back from south Florida. Saw lots of Texas tags on I95 and I75. Also saw lots of Joisy New Yak and Pensy. Texans are always welcome.
It seems some folks decided to make their New Years resolution to be a bigger butthead this year. May the fleas of a thousand camels infest their armpits.
Last year I bought a like new Cadet in .38S&W for under $100 just to have a strong, solid frame snubby to test old/new loads, like the .38SuperPolice. Same guns now in poor shape are selling for $200 and more. I have no interest in scalping so the current seller’s market is of little interest.

As far as 38 ammo, I gave up on looking on GB months ago. I check the websites that I know daily was able to find some 38 that with shipping ended up being $30 a box. Expensive, but I'm not feeding the people out there trying to get a buck a round.

When I bought my first center fire gun, a model 19 with 6" barrel I bought one box of 38WC rounds. After those were shot up I went to the local range and bought a Rock Chucker press, dies and some lead SWC bullets powder and primers and I was off to the races. I have never regretted getting in to reloading. I said I was drawing the line at casting my own bullets but then I was given around 300 pounds of lead and so I bought two Lee bullet molds. A SWC 158gr and a 148gr WC mold. Both tumble lube design. I really enjoy casting. Now I have around 26 molds.

I never have an ammo shortage. I reload for everything I shoot except 25acp. I just buy those.

S&W revos have been rediscovered the last couple years, including by folks who sold theirs some years back (like moi ). Been happy to find some Model 10s and their stainless variants.
Of course, haven't seen a thing lately at my local shop; as was quoted by a PP, "anything with a trigger" is selling.
