My only reloading has been for my Enfields (began in Feb '10). Now almost ready with the process for the M-1 Garand (bought fast-burn H 4895, have LC Ball ammo and Used Rem. cases)

The directions for these Redding 30-06 dies (unlike Lee/RCBS) tell you to clean out all of the internal parts of the dies "with bore solvent and a brass bristle brush".

It says to then use a thin coat of case lube to the inside of the sizer die. For the Enfields, I only have the Lee Resizing Lube.
1) Will this work in the dies? After lubing it seems to dry out pretty quickly. My "Gun Guru" uses a very fine powder on his.

2)Will this lube work for Full-Length 30-06 case Preparation?
On Prvi .303, it is needed on the necks ( only do neck-sizing).

I don't know what to tell you but when in doubt always call or write the company. Every company I've ever contacted was more than willing to help with any questions I have.

Cleaning the dies is a good thing. It removes the preservatives on the die. There may be some preservatives in places that you don't want it during resizing.

I have never heard of coating the die with resize lube but I have not looked at a Redding instruction sheet in a long time. You will have to lube the case any way so some lube will be left inside the die after a case is resized.

You should have experience in resizing with your Enfield, but as a reminder, don't get lube in the neck area. A build up of case lube will lead to dents in the shoulder area. If the dents are not bad, the brass is still usable and the dents will blow out on firing. It just looks bad.

When this happens, you will have to clean all the lube out of the die.

Call Redding or e-mail Redding to get some clarification. I have always had good luck with their customer service.

One final note, the Garand requires full length resizing. I assume you got full length resizing dies. Neck sized brass will not work in the Garand due to the semi-auto operation.

I think the above poster has your answer... the instructions are calling for you to clean out the anti-rust preservatives that they coat the dies with for shipping /sale/storage time. The product used may not be a good case lube...so they want you to clean it out. Relubing the die with case lube is so you don't ram a case into a dry die and have it get stuck, even though you may have the correct amount of lube on the case. What impression of their product would you get if the first case you size sticks in their die? I always relube a sizing die anytime I clean one for the same reason. It is more pleasant to have a few oil dents than to have a stuck case.

My Gun Store has tubs of nylon bristle brushes and cotton mops with twisted wire handles that are the handiest tools for cleaning dies. I use brake clean and Rem Oil on mine when they need cleaning. Never thought of applyinc case lube but I may try that next time.

I only have the Lee Resizing Lube.
It should work fine. Some dies (rcbs) have a hole in the side of the die, open this with a paper clip if your die has one.

Hornady One Shot Cleaner and Lube

I clean all dies with Hornady One Shot Cleaner and Lube. Most of my new dies are Redding and I've never have a problem.

Ranger...Now THAT'S funny!

Thanks gentlemen.

cfullgraf: "Roger that". It is a full-length 30-06 sizer.

As you might know with Enfields, using only the neck-sizer is always recommended.
I might even go on some AR forums to promote those rifles, to keep attention Away from Enfields and Garands, and I've never had an AR....forgive me for the clear deception when you see such a new thread.:D
