This is Gun related obviously but with a slight political tone as well. I don't think it is over the line but if so then Mods, feel free to smack me around some.

A friend of mine has started a new Web site clingtoyourguns.com He is in the process of building the page and needs the help of fellow gunnies like us.

An excert from the email he sent:
I'm going to set up a photo gallery where people can send in pictures
of themselves holding their guns and signs that say "Cling to this,
Obama!" (I'll make it very clear we're making a political statement,
not an actual threat).

So, gun owners, get those photos ready, I'll have the site up in a few
days!

You can either hold a sign in the photo, caption it yourself, or let us put the caption underneath.

Finally you can post the photos here or email them to my friend at [email protected]

That is a horrible picture.

For the love of God, do not send that to Obama's email inbox. Do you want us all to look bad?

Do something constructive, say target shooting, or maybe just one gun next to a bed or something.

I'm sorry, but this is tacky and very mall-ninja-esque.

THe point was to be over the top. And frankly the last time I checked the 2nd Amendment is not about hunting and I have NO responsibility to pretend that it does just because it might upset a liberal.

And if you read the message this is not being emailed to him it is a web site my friend is setting up.

As a gun owner I am insulted by your post.

I would agree. That's NOT the image I want to portray. More fuel for the anti's.

Proper training, knowledge, maturity, responsibility........IMHO those would be better concepts to promote.

The mods may not smack you around, but give it a few and kingpin008 will show up to sanctimoniously lecture us on the politics ban.

Does this have an activism angle? Maaaaaaybe.
But do you really think this will do any good?

I agree this does not put us in a flattering light.

Be insulted all you want, but don't think I don't support the 2nd amendment in all its glory. But perhaps those who would see this picture are those who might not understand or appreciate it like we do?

Turning an anti takes a long, long time. If you want to make an image of responsible, gun owning adults and send it to the canidate, then that's fine. But if you make mall-ninja lots-a-gun pictures that scream unprofessionalism and firearm immaturity, then it'll only hurt your cause and make you look bad.

That image is in the dictionary under "How to make all gun owners look bad." I'd can that campaign.

Take a newbie shooting. Better yet, a reporter. That will do more for our cause than sending pictures of yourself to some politician.

So we are no longer allowed to show a photo that might frighten the sheep? We may as well just give up now.

I am amused that posters on this site and others like ar15, TFL, etc have no problem showing photos of thier guns, but suddenly is a person is holding more than one it is bad.

It certainly looks like it could be used as fodder for the anti crowd. Sorta like virtual brandishing.

That photo might come in handy for a procecutor if you were ever defending yourself in court over using a firearm in self defense.

Do whatever you want. But you posted this on THR - by implication asking people to comment on it. We commented. It's not the best idea. As a gun owner, I would ask you to reconsider and try another tack that does not scream "mall ninja".

I see both sides, especially coming from a liberal state. BUT here are my arguments...
1. buy an ar, piss off a liberal.

2. Gun ownership should also be a positive thing. include a more positive message along with that.

3. its your life do as you please but I have to see that thats isnt the best picture to send to Obama or any other liberal.

*I do kind of see the mall ninja thing.. you arnt gecko right?

If your goal is to jam your beliefs (no matter how right) down everyone's throat, then your approach is effective. Just don't expect to sway anybody to your point of view.

If you are trying to persuade someone, you will find a professional demeanor essential to accomplishing your mission.

And you will find that I have a very professional demeanor. I have brought a number of people into the shooting sports. SOme wanted to hunt, some wanted to defend them-self, and others just wanted to know how to shoot. However the point of the site my friend is building it to poke fun at a statement made by a politician about something we all believe very strongly in. It isn't meant for anyone except us. The LOLcats of Firearms so to speak. And not a bit different than all the bathtub pics going around after I am legend came out. I seem to remember a lot of people loving that.

The first thing that jumps out at me is the name of the site. "Cling to your gun" sounds like you're desperate. Like maybe you expect the liberals to batter down your door and take your weapons at any moment.

The problem with extremist sites is that they only attract extremists. Those on your side will agree with you, just like you figured they would. Those opposed will never listen to a word you have say and just use your own slogans and pictures against you.

Beating someone upside the head with a 2x4 to teach them only teaches them to either duck faster, or hit you first.

PS Saying a site on the internet isn't for anyone except us is like walking around banging a drum and wearing a neon sign while claiming you aren't trying to attract attention. It's the internet, that kind of implies that others will see it.

The Cling to your guns title is in response to a certain political figures statement while speaking in Penn.
