CMMG .22lr AR-15 conversion kit input?

My question was about reliability. I know its a cheapish device but I highly disagree with your 1911 comparison. I wanted only one AR so I paid the price and went with LMT. I'm not looking to get too far into the AR game. No dedicated 22lr upper. Buy once cry once type of thing. A better comparison would be buying only one 1911 and choosing Les Baer or above then wondering about a 22lr conversion kit.
I think you failed to notice who I was replying to. I bought one, so why would I bash you for buying one? gunny was upset I didn't spend the time to complain to the company and play the shipping back and forth game. I paid $159 for the conversion and 2 mags in 2011. Hardly worth the effort to gain a few percent reliability. Go ahead and buy one, I think they are all stainless now, and shockingly accurate for the length of freebore.

Never said I was upset. Just find it funny that people don’t use a warranty. And calling a company about warranty work is not complaining. CMMG has a very good rep. and stand behind their products.

I would occasionally get cases stuck in the charging handle on my 22 rifle so I filled it in with RTV, works like a charm. On my latest 22 pistol build I bought a charging handle insert from Bore Buddy. If you do get stuck cases (it happens) and have an expensive charging handle that you do not want to fill with RTV, then I suggest getting the insert from Bore Buddy. That way there is no permanent changes. They also make a pressure plug if you need/want one along with a bolt buffer and spring kits.

It looks like the aftermarket has lots of fixes for these now. I always wondered if a buffer would give the bolt just a little extra bounce at the back to help chambering those few stubborn rounds. If I recall correctly, I had to reprofile the extractor also. Really sounds like I'm not the only one that struggled to get 100% reliability.

using mine on SW MP15 without issues.
The only downside is that 25-magazine is very hard to load after 15 rounds - does not have tumb-assist button.
when it comes to accuracy , I have a cheap Barska 4x scope on my rifle and adjusting just little bit for elevation, on a windless day, the 100 yard group is almost identical as 5.56.
I heard advice that after shooting 22LR, try to shoot few rounds of 223/5.56 ( if you can) so gas tube gets self-cleaned from leftover 22LR powder residue.
On many occasions I could not ( range restrictions) and everything was just fine until next session with either 5.56 or 22LR
I would definitely buy again

If it uses the Blackdog mags, I have bunch of those leftover from the SIG 522 I used to own. They're pretty easy to load.

Black Dogs are my favorite mags to use with my CMMG as their 20rd mags are pretty close to my 20rd AR mags.

NO, the bolt receiver frame on the CMMG conversion rest against the lower receiver above the buffer thread hole. You do not need a buffer, buffer spring or even a buffer tube for it to work.

I was speaking of a buffer for the 22lr bolt, not the buffer for the 223 bolt. They also make a spacer to add to the 223 buffer spring to add pressure to the 22lr frame to keep it tight in the chamber.

I've been using a normal charging handle and iirc only a couple of times has anything been stuck anywhere.

Here is a picture of the bolt buffer from Bore Buddy. I have not tried one but they seem to get good reviews from people that have them.

As far as using the pressure plug, some have noticed that it helped quite a bit and some did not notice a difference. I know that a pressure plug did help on my rifle, less FTF. It boils down to tolerances of the bolt and receivers. If the entire bolt can move back and forth, then the pressure plug helps. This seems to be more common with dedicated bolts that do not use a barrel collar like the TacSol and Chiappa bolts.

Just to throw a wrench in the works.... No I do not have a CMMG adaptor...but I play one on TV.....er… ah ..no... I have a completely different Oil-imp-pick Arms unit that was based on the GI unit (M261?) and it was a pain in the gazzootie.

biggest issue is that it DOES NOT take CMMG compatable mags and Black dog has only 30 rounders for it and the old GI adaptors for 20 round M16 mags ain't cheap. I like 20 round format (hey, it was good enough for Uncle when I worked for him) and 30s makes me feel like I am half sitting up in the prone

once I had nothing to loose (eh, Gunny?) I sat down and had a long look at it.

swapped out the firing pin return spring for something noticeably weaker and failure to fire rate greatly improved (and no it does not mark unfired brass). Shot it until dirty and looked for shiny spots and went to work with file and sand paper on a square edge and a very little rounding pretty much stopped Failure to feed. Only thing left was failure to fully chamber so when Bore Buddy came out with the buffer spring spud I bought one and it no longer hick ups at all.

I think accuracy is good enough to qualify Rifleman with at Appleseed but have not checked yet, and that in a 1:7 16 inch carbine. Next time it goes out I may shoot some of the 400 to 25 meter subtense targets to see.

I do believe keeping the smooth bore chamber adaptor bore clean is important and as with any .22 you need to experiment with different ammo brands and types to see what works best. In my experience any rifle that does not have "ANSHUTZ" stamped on the barrel can be wildly ammo sensitive and produce shot gun patterns with one brand and type and match quality groups with another.

Find the feed your horse likes.

I don't have a conversion but do have one of their dedicated uppers, I have been happy with both accuracy and reliability wise. I only have blackdog mags, so I don't know about any others. AR's do have the sight/optic a lot higher over the barrel than my other .22's though. I picked up the KNS front sight assortment kit and use one of the smaller ones on mine.
