I couldn't find this anyplace else on the site, so here she be (apologies if it's already up and I missed it):

S. E. Cupp - Guns for women on campus make sense

The author basically asserts that, if one wanted to reduce violence against women on campus, this would be one plausible means. She states that it is common sense to allow women to defend themselves in college (apparently such things need stated).

She also notes that some university campuses not only prohibit firearms, but knives, stun guns and pepper spray. On these campuses individuals are encouraged to "trust the system" of safe zones, emergency call boxes, campus police, etc., and/or engage in passive defense.

I shall remain on the High Road and not offer an opinion about that last one.

I like the direction Cupp chose for this article. She believes that the feminist movement should be screaming herrsy about the denial of rights for women, and I agree. It shows the hypocrisy in many's belief about freedom with this, but no freedom with that. It will also hopefully spark some change of minds and add voices to the second amendent believers. I can hope right?

Excellent article. My wife, who has a CC permit and outshoots me most days, is outraged that NOW and AARP, who supposedly represent some of the most vulnerable among us, are anti gun. Go figure.

Bethune-Cookman....

The "HBC"(black college) Bethune-Cookman(check correct spelling) had a shooting incident yesterday .
Reportedly 3 college students were "grazed" by stray bullets in a shooting event. The site was Daytona Beach Florida.
The university president and faculty are now uptight over guns and CCWs .
Unfortunately, the university students and admin staff will soon need to permit CCW and guns on the campus if the new Florida bills go thru.

It looks like a lock that Gov Scott(R-FL) will sign the new pro gun/2A bill.
The Bethune Cookman president made some angry dad remarks about how he will keep guns out & "crime and guns belong in the street, not a college".

I've always said that the "women's right to choose" statement is BS. Certainly not a woman's right to choose to be armed, or to defend herself. They fight only for a woman's right to choose abortion. The rest will be chosen for them by their "superiors."

I think coeds should certainly have the option of defending themselves with firearms. I do not think introducing carry weapons will address the problem in it's entirety. There is an awful lot of college life where having loaded guns present is inappropriate It's those parts of college life wherein the unfortunate actions against the interests of women occur.

I expect what you would see if carry became widespread is that the women would simply avoid those kinds of situations to avoid a possibility of using the guns. The reduction in reported offenses would be coincidental with no solution directly attributable to guns. Guns don't kill people. Guns don't avoid killing people, either.

Sounds like the typical college President hoplophobe loon from the '60's. Governor Scott will sign this bill, no doubt, so the Bethune Prez can now have sleepless nights!

We have had campus carry in Colorado for several years. Nothing really to report- no blood running in the streets or shootouts over test scores and final grades. One idiot admin staffer at CU Health Sciences Center did have a ND in office with an NAA Mini, but that news story went away pretty quick.

This is the feminist argument against arming women:
Suggesting that women are responsible for their own protection is blaming the victim, by suggesting that those who are attacked should have better prepared themselves. I have seen countless times on comment boards the suggestion to "just teach men not to rape."

While I understand its a bad idea in court to blame the woman, the unfortunate problem is that if you absolve someone of all responsibility for their choices, they will continue to make choices that put themselves at risk or reduce the chance of escaping when attacked. However, it is only politically correct to suggest we retrain men to not attack, and not that we retrain women to avoid and repel attacks. This places full responsibility on men and allows greatest freedom for women.

That's not my opinion, but it is where the feminists are coming from. It's not about rights, but an absolution from responsibility. I am all for women's rights and gender equality, amd I think the greatest equilizer known to us is a great way to promote gender equality.

S.E. Cupp has always taken that stand. She used to be on FNC, then moved to MSNBC, the only voice of intelligence, and most recently on CNN.

I’ll second avoiding the AARP. I got an “Invitation” to join when I turned 45. Got my membership bill and the first magazine. Took one look at what they promoted and opposed and sent it back with instructions on where and how to insert it. That was 33 years ago and I haven’t heard a word from them since.
