From Colorado's MMM newsletter - (seems I'm still on the list. ;) )

Oh, Wah!

These losers, from actually having fairly total support here in CO (by media accounts anyway) in early 2000, have pulsed to being (literally) about 5 dedicated members - in-state/local. Bad cess on them.

They are now to whining that the AWB may be done away with, that firearms (that do everything they are designed to), that the gun industry should still be held accountable for the misdeeds of criminal use, & that the F-a-B-eye should actually be held accountable & liable for federal laws, or that the firearms industry needn't maintain records of transactions - not to mention "educational issues."

Time to drive a stake through these civic-minded women once & for all, methinks.

If you haven't yet:

Get informed as to what's coming down the pike, write up a very succinct & polite e-mail addressing each issue (seperatly, please), print it out & hard snail-mail it, phone your rep, & fax it, & then mail in the hard copy. Follow up with a phone call.

Time to bury them once & for all since we have a "pro-second amendment" Prez & a "phantoms of lost liberties" Ashcroft.

No better time, folks.

These babes are on the ropes.

FLAWED GUNS: PUBLIC AT RISK

The Detroit News has a wonderful report on how the gun industry has
continued to manufacture firearms even when fully aware of defects.
(Warning, some pictures are very graphic.) Another reason why this
industry does not deserve immunity from law suits resulting from
their negligence. Let's see, the government bans ephedra because it
caused about 150 deaths and ignores the fact that approximately
29,000 Americans die each year from firearms.

COMING BATTLES IN WASHINGTON
Bills 2 and 3 will be fought in the Senate beginning January 21.
Contact your Senators.

Bill # 1: No Renewal of the Assault Weapons Ban
· Puts military style rapid-fire assault weapons that have been
banned for the last ten years back on the street.

Bill #2: Gun Industry Immunity Legislation
· Grants sweeping immunity for Bull's Eye Shooter Supply, who armed
the DC snipers and sold guns used in at least 52 other crimes, and
other reckless gun dealers.
· Slams the courthouse door shut on victims of gun crime once and for
all.

Bill # 3: Omnibus Appropriations Bill
· Destroys records of firearms sales in 24 hours instead of the
current 90 day law.
· Blocks authorities from requiring Bull's Eye and all other gun
dealers to take regular inventories of firearms.

The NRA is out of control and at odds with the values of the American
people. Their hubris and bullying tactics will be their worst enemy
in 2004.

How can this group say they're for enforcing existing laws when they
work to weaken or nullify them? Federal report warns Bill #3 will
overwhelm law enforcement and put more guns in the hands of the wrong
people. When I visited with Sen. Campbell's DC staff in October, I
noticed many memorabilia from Colorado police departments. Even so,
he is waffling on supporting a renewal of the Assault Weapons Ban.

2ND AMENDMENT AFFECTS OTHER ISSUES.

Even though the NRA is facing a $100 million deficit, it's getting
involved in laws of other countries in support of illegal gun
traffickers. http://www.newsday.com/news/nationworld/world/ny-
wolati043609930jan04,0,3485015.story?coll=ny-worldnews-headlines

Worried about the Lt. Governor's pledge to open shooting ranges on
Colorado public land—near Lowry and Colorado Springs? Check out an
NRA backed bill to grant immunity to ranges that pollute the water
even though Southwest Florida Water Management District and the state
Department of Environmental Protection want to hold them
accountable.

And, of course, the gun issue is effecting funding for education.
Rep. Musgrave and Rep. Tancredo withdrew support of a bill that would
create a grant to help teachers of civics and history better educate
their students because it wasn't pro-gun enough and didn't explicitly
focus on the 2nd Amendment.

LEGAL ACTIONS TO WATCH.

Rhode Island – Suit challenges the right to carry a concealed
weapon.

Suits in New Mexico and Minnesota which challenge shall issue
concealed carry laws in their state because the wording in their
constitutions is similar to Colorado's:
"The right of no person to keep and bear arms in defense of his home,
person and property, or in aid of the civil power when thereto
legally summoned, shall be called in question; but nothing herein
contained shall be construed to justify the practice of carrying
concealed weapons.""
