so, i was cleaniing out my uncle's ammo/gun room the other day [he passed away in november]....i was so excited about the ammo i was finding...over 5k in 22lr alone.... i didn't treally give this mich of a lookover when i first found it....in fact i assumed it was a starter pistol or flare gun or something of the like....found it again yesterday, and realized its a single shot .45/.410 derringer. i've had a few guns that had dubious justifications for existance, but for the life of me can't see this having much of a practical purpose in life, aside from maybe killing the occasional rattlesnake in the yard.....its by far the crudest of firearms in my collection LOL

Thanks for posting this an sharing a photo with us. Looks like a fine "tackle box gun" to me! I used to see some of the older country boys carrying a derringer, generally a cheap double barrel stacked like a Remington 1871 in .22 or .38 Special in their tackle boxes for the Cotton Mouths which they all swore would agressivly swim toward their Jon Boats or lurk in trees overhanging the water waiting to drop in the boat.

Um, I thought this a bit odd......until I found a Cotton Mouth in a thee over hanging the water and later had one swim towards the boat.

Anyhow, a paddle works in either case, but any excuse to have a gun seemed fine to them.

I have the Double barrel version. It goes bang, but sometimes it pops open when I shoot buck or slugs through it. I load .45LC, so I made some real tame loads to 'plink' with it. Small shot spreads very fast due to the rifling.

I like the double barrel Model DD better because it Dan chamber the 3" 410 shells while the D only does the 2.5" 410 shells. Both are fun though... Don't expect much from the 410s when shot from this derringer. From 10 yards out the pellets bounce back at you when they hit a target and backer. Safety glasses are great!

Enjoy the fact that crap like this is able to be made. Had double and it felt like the gun backed off the shot. Penetration on OSB, barely. Pattern, duh. My 624 with Speer capsules rules.
The guys in Corinth loved them. I won't judge. Just won't have another.

LOL....yeah, 7.5 shot barely, and in some cases, did not, penetrate a PLASTIC folgers can at point blank distances. while luckily we weren't dusted, we did here some shot bounce off an aluminum building behind us. For giggles, i picked up some buckshot rounds designed for the judge to shoot in it.....we'll see if that fares any better against soda cans or coffee cans LOL While i still find it rather useless, shooting it is still fun for some unexplainable reason LOL I'd have never bought one myself, but yet find it a unique addition to the collection, and not something you see every day.

Interesting thread. I haven’t seen one of those for a few years now. About five plus years ago there would be at least a half dozen for sale at every gun show. I was thinking about getting one but after handling one, I decided that I wanted to keep all my fingers so I passed. Glad to hear that they can actually be fired.

Well, they can be fired but I don't fire more that a few rounds at a time lol.

One day I made the mistake of firing it twice in rapid succession. Unfortunately I didn't make sure my hand was in the proper position for the second shot. My thumb stoped bleeding in a few minutes so it wasn't that bad!!!

It was just something I thought would be fun and I spent under $100 for it. I probably should have saved the money...

id have never bought one, but now that i've acquired one, i figure i might as well shoot it a few times lol

I remember when some popped up that had wire stocks added and barrel extensions welded on to make full length folding shotguns. Though the double barrel was almost interesting enough to buy at $75, new, but I passed.
