Cocked and locked?

I'm a bit leery of Condition 1 carry for a 1911. I realise that there are sears and safeties involved but my CCW instructor had a story about some guy showing his GF how safe his 1911 was as long as the safeties were on until he blew a hole into her heart with all the safeties on.
I've heard numerous stories like this. Problem is, NONE of them were ever first person. They have always been "Joe told me that Jim...," or it would be something like "there was a guy..." Unless there's documentation to go with the story, I don't believe it.

I carried an M1911 when I was in the Army, that was older than me. It was looser than any weapon I've ever handled, before or since. But the safeties ALWAYS worked, it never discharged UNLESS it was in my hand, the manual safety was off, and I was squeezing the trigger.

And frankly, I'd worry about anyone who wants to show me how safe a pistol is by pointing at my heart.

I carry a Browning Hi Power cocked and locked in a variety of HBE holsters. I sometimes carry a 1911 as a backup :D , and it is also cocked and locked.
