Collection or Arsenal?

21 guns... that's no arsenal. You're just getting started! But if you had cases of say SKS's, AK's or AR's, I might use the term arsenal rather than accumulation.

So I have considerably fewer guns than you, but watch as I use verbage to turn:

1x 16 gauge coach gun
1x.22lr semi automatic rifle
1x Colt 1911
1x RG 40 revolver
1x .38S&W Breaktop
1x Bauer .25 auto

...into an "arsenal"

Ahem,

"Earlier today a Central Florida man was arrested in an early morning raid on his home. The raid, conducted by NYPD officers directed by the Mayor of New York City uncovered a veritable arsenal in the mans dwelling, consisting of several handguns, including a small caliber asassins pistol and a "Saturday Night Special, as well as a sawed off shotgun, a semi automatic assault weapon, and a large caliber military handgun. Several hundred rounds of "cop killer" hollowpoint ammunition were also recovered from the scene.

When asked why the NYPD officers were arresting a Florida resident on charges of possessing weapons illegal in NYC, mayor Bloomberg replied, "WON'T SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN?"..."

See?

RevolvingGarbage... good one, but we all know how the press often reports how many firearms might have been encountered in a raid.

An arsenal is a building where firearms are stored.

Good distinction, which reminds me of a failed legislative initiative 10 years ago (or more?) in Maryland, that any collection over XX firearms (I forget how many, but it was low), would be legally considered an arsenal, which then would be required to have a license (with fees attached), register with police/fire department, etc. etc... I think this never really made it to the floor of the MD legislature, or died quickly if it did. I think someone got the idea from a fake HCI memo that was circulating around a decade ago...

Dead-on. Are you related to a CNN reporter? :D

Home of the free, land of the brave. Last time I checked we should strive for both.

That's a superb "tribe".
A younger "gun guru" friend/coworker, who retired from the reserves on a military rifle team has eighteen M-1 Garands, and that's not all of his guns. Most of the M-1s were won as match prizes and are stored in another state. Maybe you need a few Garands in your 'Band of Brothers' gun family.

The friend now has his first AR-10, because the wife:scrutiny: of a friend of his discovered something out of bounds etc. If you buy an "Extra" gun or necessary ammo, never use plastic to pay for it. With a money order or cashier's check, nobody sees anything on a credit card statement.

It is all in the mindset if you enjoy owning and shooting you got a collection, now if you are planning on invading a small country you got a arsenal.

Here is how you need to look at things:

If you have a full gun cabinet/safe, you effectively have an arsenal.
If you buy a new gun cabinet/safe and its empty you have a collection again.

The key to is to have extra space for more guns....

Another coworker calls my "collection" a traveling circus since I don't stick to a single brand or even style of gun.

Tell him its a Flying Circus, and you're the Red Baron.

My collection is willy-nilly the same way. I buy whatever suits my fancy. I'm not out to arm the local militia.

Sure, there are themes, like "Mosin-Nagant" and "19th Century European Revolvers", but they grow amorphously, like an ameoba. I think long and hard about adding new calibers... before I succumb. :D

Anyone who would call my collection an arsenal does not know I have a collection. And yes I do own multiple weapons that are the same or the same caliber.

The wife calls my modest little collection an arsenal. It irritates the hell out of me.

Just like the media does when they report on the Police busting some guy that "has an arsenal in his home"... probably a small selection of guns....

Your collection sounds modest to me(and fun). I have a total of 9. But my 2 AR's and 1 P220ST,with 3,000 rounds... are all I really need.
