Collection or Arsenal?

I am surprised the boating accident hasnt come up yet, but I would say you have a nice start on that collection. I too think of a place to store multiple military grade grade firearms of general make as the Arsenal, usually sitting right next to the motor pool.

Arsenal (vice collection), as somebody posted, is a negatively loaded (pun intended) term the anti-gun coalition likes to toss into sentences such as:

Regressive, trigger-happy, right-wing gun hoarders across this crime-weary nation are surreptitiously stockpiling military-style assault weapons, multi-kill clips, night-vision sniper scopes, and thousands of deadly hollow-point dum-dum bullets, maintaining and supplementing their peace-threatening, lethal arsenals in a vaguely legal effort to make a last, blood-stained stand against reasonable measures designed to keep innocent women and children safe from gun violence.

I didn't lift that sentence from anywhere, but you can find many like it in the press.

A shotgun, rifle and handgun are considered by the media to be three firearms too many. The present administration says you shouldn't have been able to acquire them to begin with.

The antis like to use words with a negative connotation such as arsenal or hoarding. If you think about it logically even the most dangerous psychopath would not be made much more dangerous by having hundreds of guns. You can only shoot one at a time effectively, maybe two handguns at most and that takes a lot of practice. Even if you had a way to carry an “arsenal” with you grabbing up a new gun every time you ran dry would not really be any faster than simply changing magazines. The only “dangerous” aspect of having a large collection would be the ability to arm large numbers of others in order to resist the government and this is what gun control is really about.

Look around the property a bit. How many TVs? Cars? Radios? Power drills? Hand saws? Sets of dishes/flatware? Jeez, for screwdrivers, I can't count them; I'd have to estimate by the bushel. Why would it be normal for me to own five or more complete sets of allen wrenches, but abnormal to have five or more firearms? I've only got one rump, but how many chairs do I have around here? Jeez, I know people who own multiple houses. How can someone get spun up over one family owning two guns, but not spun up over another family owning two houses?

It's because, deep down, the people who accuse you of having an arsenal of guns don't want you to have *any* guns.

My answer to why I have x-number guns is, "Why don't *you* have that many?"

Point of view. According to my wife, my "collection" is an arsenal. I tell her simply that I collect guns the way others collect stamps and coins...

Nice collection, my "short list" has a bout 20 guns on it, all of which are guns I would find fun to shoot and which cover the spectrum of shooting needs, wants and disciplines. I'm sure that would be considered an arsenal by some, but so would the 5 guns I already own and the 1700 rounds of ammo in my safe are probably a dangerous ammo dump to the same people...

An arsenal is more guns that the person making the distinction.

If they have zero guns, even one is an "arsenal.":neener:

Generally when it comes to my collection and yes I do have quite a but is ammo to go with it. My fellow firearm enthusiasts generally call it a collection. When I hear the term arsenal it usually comes from those who are either anti gun or they don't have much knowledge and understanding of firearms begin with. Personally I don't mind the term arsenal.

If someone tells me I have too many I simply tell them its like a savings account I have fun with, I still watch it grow I can take it our have fun with it.

The anti-gun nuts would characterize what I have as an arsenal. Collectors would characterize what I have as an accumulation. Friends would say, "Neat! Let's go shoot!"

"The bathroom? Just go down the hall towards the master bedroom and turn right at the arms room."

About a week ago a coworker and fellow gun enthusiast accused me of building an arsenal.
I get that a lot. ;) "Whuddya tryin' t' do, start a war or sumpin'?" Try something original.

My definition of an "arsenal" is something much bigger than my modest accumulation of guns, and owned by the government.

I say "nope. Just wanna be prepared for it in case it comes to me.

I like to think I have a well rounded collection. But, I too have been accused of having an 'Arsenal' by coworkers. As I am trying to explain the differance between a collection and an Arsenal the discussion leads to "If something ever happens I'm coming to your house." My response is always "I suggest you NOT do that, you will more than likely be mistaken as a looter or zombie and be SHOT." The discussion ENDS right there, every time. (I'm not well liked by most at my work place.)

If I ever caused any trouble a news reporter would say I had an arsenal but I like to think of it as a good inventory if I ever wanted to open up a retail outlet.

I currently have 10 - 1.75 liter bottles of Jack Daniel's (Old No. 7) in my house and/or scattered strategically throughout points on my ranch..... Does that mean I own a distillery????

The Dove

BTW - I do alot of entertaining...

We have nice collections. I notice you have multiple 1911's, thats the one on the top of my wish list just not sure which one.

Chuck Schumer always talks about implementing an arsenal license. His threshhold is always around 200 rounds, of anything, before the increased tax comes in. You guys know this has nothing to do with logic, nor with safe storage, which always seems to come up. What they will push for is more and more safes, electronic monitoring, insurance, registration, etc. That will make it economically impossible for the average person to own more than a couple guns. This is all about control. Schumer's type of control.

what you call a collector
the media calls an arsenal

but on a side note, arsenals are used to arm armies, and I doubt most of us are anywhere close to that (but OTH, I know a few are so...)

According to Merriam Webster, an Arsenal is a colletion of weapons. So, since a collection could be a collection of only one (think something like the pistol used to kill Lincoln) any firearm is an arsenal. So, collection, accumulation, or any other such word regarding weapon (s) is an arsenal.

I've had the same discussions before... People saying they're coming to my house when TSHTF. I kinda laugh and say they're more than welcome, because when that time comes, I'll already be gone :D

But as far as collections go, do I *need* 15 AKs? Probably not. But, when AKs come in so many different configurations and from so many different countries, I don't see anything wrong with having at least one of each :D

Same with ARs or any other type of firearm that has multiple variants.. Gotta have 'em all.

I do not own any "collectors" type firearms though. Everything I own is a shooter. Maybe when I get tired of shooting, I'll start working on "collector" weapons...
