college student shoots home invasion team

Note especially the irony: if the good guy had been unarmed in a "gun free zone", the lead story on the evening news around the world *would* have been:

"In yet another example of the inexplicable fetish Americans have for guns, another mass shooting on a college campus. When will we finally learn our lesson?"

But seriously, is there some practical way to shame the media into actually RUNNING this story somewhere other than the local station where the shooting happened?

were they on campus? I wouldn't be surprised if they suspended the student for having that gun on campus. I'll tell you what, I bet it was worth it. Considering that it saved everyone's life! Finally, a student willing to stand up for himself! Bravo!

HAHA geronimo I was thinking along the same lines.

If it was California it happened in I would have asked how much jail time he was looking at if he is caught.

But you know the sad thing is, someone somewhere is thinking to themself, "but if we had banned guns, then the criminals wouldn't have had guns, so the student wouldn't have had to shoot one of them, and a human life would not have had to be terminated."

+1 to the college students. As I understand the shooting took place at an off-campus apartment.

Agreed on why does the media always run stories of "OMG! Guns! BAD!" Yett, when someone defends themselves with a gun its quietly swept under the rug and ignored?

Also, is it me, or are stories of someone defending themselves with a gun more frequent than the mass-shootings that crop up from time to time?

Specifically hitting a party of collegians? Gotta be lookin for either sex or drugs, because kids in college sure as hell don't got alot of money.

Not anymore. It seems like a lot of college kids go through all 4 years of school still attached to Daddie's purse strings, and even those that don't are who might be cash strapped often are mechandise rich, with cars and Iphones and laptops and a ton of other gadgets.

Really, stealing laptops and iphones is the new stealing jewelry, watches, and TV/stereos.

However, I think sex was big component of the crime, being that the criminals divided up the men from the women. College is definately a place to go if you are looking for attractive women to commit sex crimes against

Guys, please click on that link. Newspaper sites are judged by how much traffic a story generates. Reading my copy-and-paste version here does NOTHING. Reading it there means the paper is fairly compensated, AND it means that newspaper and other newspapers are more likely to run similar stories. Newspapers and TV stations show news that sells.

Good for the student!

I searched CNN and only came up with a story about a lunatic randomly shooting at someone (no injuries) and a firearm instructor accidently shooting a student (no deaths). The story had a graphic of a shadowy figure pointing a revolver at the reader.

I'll bet there was drugs there or the BG though there was drugs there.

Not necessarily. The perps could have simply viewed college kids as soft targets. They likely were looking for an easy payday, rather than a big payday.

Just an FYI, this morning I was watching HLN (used to be a CNN channel) and Robin Meade or whatever her name is did run the story as a quick couple minutes segment. They had interviews of a couple of the victims talking about how they knew they were dead and were thankful for the outcome and it was stated that the student took the opportunity to save lives.

Not much, but it did make it to a national cable news source and was broadcast.

Funeral home condolence page for dead would-be rapist/thief

Unless there are two recently deceased individuals named Calvin Lavant from Georgia, the condolence page for this individual can be found by clicking on his name at the right side of this page:

being as how it's the family that will read the guest book, I won't be leaving any remarks about how he deserved what he got. Too bad his friend won't be in the obituary next to him.

Unless I missed it, it just said apartment not campus apartment. The school has
zero say.

not really,he [the student] probably is going going to jail for shooting that piece of crud, and for having a concealed weapon to do it with.

What makes you say that?

Please refer to the GA criminal code and/or Federal law to demonstrate how his possession of the handgun in his own residence constitutes either a "concealed weapon" or a chargeable offense for possession under either.

Likewise, point to the portion of the GA criminal code that makes the use of deadly force in self-defense or defense of others in that particular situation a crime.

We'll wait.

Found it yet?

If not, quit spouting nonsense claims.

The chances of being charged in a clear self-defense shooting are abysmally low, in fact, nowadays such occurences are notable by their rarity and even then are typically limited to a few states or jurisdictions.

yea GSU is really a walmart if you walk into the study halls when they are empty. People leave all sorts of crap lying around. And it does get stolen. Laptops, ipods, phones, jewelry. It is their own fault, but again, security is slack.
At my college, they don't even have armed guards. They just ask your college ID. I don't even bring mine. They take down my license and I am free to walk wherever I want. It is so horribly stupid. I hope to God they pass a CCW on campus law. I would carry all the damn time.

The guy who shot the bad guys is immune from civil lawsuits, or other lawsuits, because it was self defense. GA law. Win.

Agreed. My first thought was too add "good riddance" to the guest book, but that would do nothing but add hurt to an already-grieving family.

I tip my hat to the armed student.
