I pulled 20 some 158 gr. .357" Gold Dots a while back using RCBS collet puller. I accidentally used start charges from my log data, and because that load performed so poorly during work up, I pulled those rounds and reloaded them using the intended load data.

Anyway, after having finished correcting my error, I checked the rounds for diameter and deformation issues and discovered they were all now nearly exactly .001" smaller in diameter. Being that these are top end 296 loads, I wanted to check with some of you to ask if this might present any issues with the bullets getting gas cut after they leave the case mouths. They'll be fired out of either a K frame, or a Taurus 608. I measured the length from olgive to base on those 158's, and I found that the projectile olgive and shank will already be well into the lands before the base clears the case mouths.

The K frame has pretty tight cylinders, .3566", and the barrel is a bit tighter as well. But the 608 is right at .357" so that one is my primary concern.

Oh, and for those who might consider ever using a collet puller for roll crimped cartridges, don't. Those pullers are great for bottle neck applications and even work well with rimless type cartridges such as 9mm and .40 cal. as I discovered, but other wise just use a kinetic puller for roll crimped rounds. Over 30 yrs. of reloading and still learning.
