Okay..., so I was just thinking... here it is 2009 almost 2010, and there ought to be some HUGE influx of Centennial Editions of the classic Colt 1911 in the works.

I haven't heard anything about this but I am sure there are more than a few manufacturers out there thinking about the big day, rubbing their grimy little hands together and I for one... can't wait to see what is in store for all of us aficionado's out there! I guess I better start saving my dollars now. Anybody heard anything about the big upcoming event or is this just all in my little pea brain? Maybe I should work for Colt or one of the many clone manufacturers out there.

Can't wait to see what the boys have on the drawing boards for the big Birthday Bash - The 100 Year Anniversary of the Colt 1911!!

2011 should be interesting, indeed. Time to get a gold plated 1911!

Kidding of course. Platinum.

How about some with all titanium internals?

Then definitely time to start saving pennies :p

I'm thinking at least some drop dead gorgeous hand engraving (none of that laser engraving crap, etc.) and Gold inlays! Of course... on a classically - deeply blued and highly polished STEEL.

Coincidentally 2011 is when I will turn 21 and can buy my own handgun. I may just have to make it a 2011 1911 :p

I want to see the reproduction I've been waiting for - an honest, accurate pre-WWI commercial model with the correct roll markings and finish. They should warm us up for it with a limited run of 1910 commercial models next year. Now that would be a treat.

I am sure we will see a lot of commemoratives, but I don't think Colt or any of the clone labs has the capability to turn out a really nice reproduction. It isn't by accident that Colt has limited previous "reissues" to military models.

You could probably buy whatever comes out with somewhat correct contours and markings and have a real gunsmith smooth up the operation and refinish it to the early appearance but that would really run the cost up.

I really hope someone puts some nice commemoratives on the market. I'll bet at least 1/2 of them are going to be gaudy looking gold plated overpriced pistols with giant billboards on them in some cheesy display box. That always seems to happen. Either that or they'll release something identical to what they already make with something like "1911-2011" in big numbers on the slide.

I am hoping for a good one because that is something I'd like to buy. What do you guys think they should produce as a commemorative? I'd like to at least see some companies that don't do a "re-issue" style gun come out with one for 2011. Maybe some of the semi-custom makers doing a small run of some real nice quality pistols.

Yes, that's a possibility that has occurred to me. I don't think it's a problem of "can't" as much as "won't want to risk paying for it." I think they've limited the recent commemoratives to WWII and WWI models because that's what the market wants - the prices of collectible guns show that pretty clearly. But the cost of actually finishing a gun to pre-WWI standards would be high and not as many people would appreciate it and pay for it; that I feel is certain. For example, they finished the "Series '70" commemorative to much lower standards than the real deal. So there's the risk they'll do that, also - in which case I would pass on buying one.

My vote is for one of the real early 1911's; high polish charcoal blue finish w/fire blue screws and other small parts. AND good old fashioned Colt Quality Control - the 01911 and 01918 were sadly lacking in this respect. Cost? Very, very expensive but I think they would sell well.

Congrads, but the age is 18 years.

I believe that is only in private sales.

I did a lot of research before I got my pistol for my birthday. I can own and carry one openly with no problem, I just can't buy it for myself. Nor can I buy ammo for it.

Sometimes, I cannot believe how messed up the laws are:barf:
Way to go doing your research ;)

Funny, I was just thinking this exact same thing two days ago... I would LOVE to see a wwI reproduction or one of the originals with a wide spur hammer and all. Personally I am not a big fan of the gold inlay but I would not mind looking at a few...
