As far as currently manufactured Colt models - you're looking for a unicorn. The closest option is the Match Target HBAR - A2 configuration, but without a bayonet lug and with a heavier profile barrel.
But, You should be able to find an SP-1 version out there that would meet your needs. I've seen 'em on gunbroker from time to time. If your willing to drop the Colt requirement, then there are more than just a few options out there.
Hm... what's the next builder down the list? I want something basic... none of the rails, piston uppers, etc. And the 20 inch A2 style rifle requirement still stands.
Colt sold that configuration from about 1985 to about 1993 20", bayonet lug ect. They made quite a few. I bought one new in 1986 and still have it. Still remember what I paid for it because it was.... so dang expensive $525.00 LOL.
Local dealer had two 1980s A2 HBARs on consignment for $1250 about a mouth ago. They sold within a few days. They are around.... just don't last long when they come up for sale.
I think Sabre's running at $1200. I think CD is running around $1000 to $1100. I haven't been paying attention to rifles since the election...
I forgot that Armalite also makes A2 style rifles. Don't know the current price on them, but thier website says $1150. I'd be pretty comfortable buying one of those, I think...
Many years ago I was given an ar-15. It was my first centerfire rifle and had a thick black finish. Back then all I knew was that is alot of fun and wasnt very interested in value or manufacturer. A few years later I looked up the name on the lower PWA commando (which sounded badass) Found out they only made lowers, so I figured it whas some franken rifle some guy threw together. A year or so ago I finaly looked up the other codes, and it was colt all the way besides the pwa lower. 20" thick barrel 1/7 twist with a2 sights. Sorry, if way off topic.
CMMG makes a barrelled upper in that config, I think. Take CMMG's barrelled upper and drop in a Colt (or other top tier maker)'s BCG and you'll avoid the biggest "corner cutting" problems.
