Gas ring gaps do not need to be staggered, the fact that the rifle will function with only one ring is proof.I've seen one continuous or three but never two. Seems too possible for the gaps to colocate with only two for it to ever be policy.

Easy to test if you're a non-believer.... line up all the gaps and go shooting. It will work just fine.
They also probably told you to scrape every tiny crevice in an effort to get the rifle "white glove clean," and we know that usually does more harm than good.Interesting. We were taught otherwise in boot camp.
No. It's completely unnecessaryThe question is if it will shoot in all conditions in such a manner. If heavily fouled and low on lube non-staggered gas rings could theoretically be the hair that breaks the camel's back for a malfunction.
Well, I wouldn't be too confident. Their CS leaves a lot to be desired.I agree, should be three. I'm sure Colt will fix this fast. And it's wise to have spares so get 4! Fortunately this is an easy fix.

One would hope. Can't say firsthand but you'd hope Colt would stuff a few gas rings in an envelope. Cheap fix for them and an easy way for the tech to close the call.
We were in a dusty world overseas teaching locals and it was a bit embarrassing to have the thing fail so I switched components amongst team members 16s and to one degree or another, the malfunction followed the bolt so in my hootch that night, I stoned the gaps of the rings with an "Arkansas" stone and cordless drilled the inside of the bolt with a cut-up chamber brush and tooth paste. Things were okee-dokee the next day. Odd, that!ApacheCoTodd, I believe you. It's just too weird to make up! That's a rifle I would have turned back in!
No kidding...after waiting on the phone for an hour before someone picked up, I was told that he didn't know what I was asking about and needed to email Colt Defense. After a day passed with no info, I emailed back and was told that the "ONE" person that I needed to speak with will be out until Oct 5th. Told them that I find it hard to accept that only one person at Colt could answer my simple question. Seems they could just dig up some gas rings and send me a set. So yeah, their CS sucks so far. I'm sort of disappointed because I paid $1K for the AR that "all others are compared to" and Colt didn't even ship all of the required parts with the NIB rifle. My Armalite and RRA rifles came with all of the parts right out of the box. So much for that.
