Series 80? Series 70? Pre-Series 80? What is the condition of the gun?

In general, any Colt 1911 that shoots reliably and isn't modified on the kitchen table by chimps is a deal for under $500. If this is a Pre-Series 70 gun, then snap it up. Snap it up anyway.......

I had one years ago and sold it. :banghead: but I needed the money. I am still trying to get another to replace it. Mine was the 80 series with colt/pacmyer grips.

Any unmodified 80-Series or pre 80 Series Commander or Combat Commander for less than $500 is a good value. The only thing that might kill the deal is some ham-handed modifications that might have been incorporated. Nicely done mods would have to be considered on an individual basis.

Yep, "excellent condition" and not mucked with equals $600 or higher if you shop hard. Grab it.

I asked him today and he said he has had it for many years and it has original wood grips. I haven't seen it yet but I've worked with this person for years and trust him when he says it's excellent. He also said it's unmodified.

sounds like a great deal, but if you decide not to buy it I'll snap it up. Merritt Island is just a short drive for me.

Beautiful deal, the kind I never run across. You can go to proofhouse.com and may be able to check the age.

Wow, that's nice. I'm envious. All original and un-mucked with - a real find.

The serial # starts with 70 so I'm guessing it's a series 70.

No, it's a "pre-80." The Commander's never got the full "Series '70" treatment, but the frames were serial numbered like that, so it's misleading. Only the full-size guns were stamped "Series '70" on the slide and kitted with the accurizer barrel/bushing combination. "Series '70" guns say so on the slide and barrel.

Great buy on a great gun, I enjoy mine.

But the commander pistols were never made in a Series 70, they have always retained the solid bushing. 70 is just the prefix, there are some website you can use to narrow down the production date or call Colt.

Why don't I have friends like that????? I'd buy everyone of them I could get at $450 in that shape. You have a great friend there.

Great one! Congratulations. I am broke, but I think I would dig the money up somewhere if a deal like that on an old Combat Commander came my way.
