Wow. Four C's in the title...

I have had this Series 80 Enhanced Commander since 1992. When I got it, it was on the iffy side in terms of reliability. Called Colt up and they had me send it to Bain & Davis on their dime. Came back with a tuned extractor, lowered ejection port, polished ramp, and trigger work. In 1995, I put on a set of Trijicon's.

Loved to shoot it, but the stainless was, as someone on another board said, "souless". I just could never accept it. Stainless is my kitchen sink, not for my Commander.

In mid-June, I sent out the pistol to Virgil Tripp over at Tripp Research. I had him install Heinie Straigh Eights, a Cobra Coat on everything except the stainless barrel, and had him send me some of his magazine kits so I could rebuild some of my tired range mags. Just a skosh over 2 weeks, but there was a 3 day weekend thrown in there too.

Shoot 300 rounds yesterday. 250 rounds of Fiochi ball and 50 rounds of assorted JHP's. Some hiccups with Golden Sabre, but no issues on Starfire or Hydra Shock.

The Cobra Coat is, as expected, not nearly as hard as Hard Chrome. I have some wear in the breach and around the ejection port already. I'll keep an eye on it over time to see how it holds up. I polished the ramp as the Cobra Coat dinged up there as well during the range session.

I don't carry being the PRK, so all use will be range use and the occasional holster time when I'm camping, off roading, etc.

In retrospect, I probably should have gone to hard chrome which I like MUCH more then stainless. I'm getting ready to send Tripp a Model 15 S&W beater I picked up.

I am absolutely hooked on the Straight Eights and am glad I am having Ted Yost put them on my Springfield Government. I wanted the 1* package, but didn't care for the Novak sights.

The Tripp mag kits were great. I like the metal insert on the polymer follower. All 4 troubled range mags performed 100%.
