Colt Detective Special

I'd be happy if I could clank away on my S-C in the office while smoking a pipe and listening to Paul Whiteman on the crystal set.

Get off my lawn you kids!

Nice...Give that man a cigar!

I love my S&W Chiefs Special...but I'm smitten by these Detective Specials. I keep hearing about the smooth triggers - and there is something about a six-shooter...

-I keep hearing about the smooth triggers -

Well, it's true. Smoothest trigger of all six of my revolvers. Or any others I've shot.

Does a Cobra count?

Well... I've got an Agent and a Cobra, and I'd say the triggers are very good. Trying to think how many other Colt revolvers I have... but long story short, I'm not singing and dancing over these triggers, but still, very good.

Here's my DS:

And here's my Cobra:

The DS is from 1968, and the Cobra is from 1954.

It'll give you some idea of what I think of them when I reveal that I don't even have a Smith J-Frame. With these two Colts, I don't feel the need for one.

Great photo, Cosmo.

Sorry, nothing to add........but put me down on record as a wannabe.

Well the good news is I managed to secure half a dozen boxes of vintage .38 special wadcutters for $12 each, at an otherwise lifeless gunshow. The bad news is my "V" mainspring broke after half a century of good service. I have an old spare but I'm not 100% sure of it. Anyone know of a source for these?

I have a blued and Nickel DS

An agent with a bobbed hammer

and a Cobra

Love them

Do the Tyler grips fit any revolver? I have two sets that came with a S&W K-22 and Model 14. I was thinking about putting them on the Cobra.

My first DS's. Cop turn ins.

PIPP stands for Palisades Interstate Parkway Police. http://www.usacops.com/nj/p07620pip/index.html

After getting the Colt letter that indicated shipment of both DS's to Alpine New Jersey on the same day, about 1930, I called the Department up. DS's were issued to the Parkway Police Detectives. Great guys to talk to. The chrome one was the personal sidearm of Chief Pfeiffer (spelling uncertain). It had been chromed by a guy in the department. As you can see from the butt wear, Chief Pfeiffer carried this revolver for years.

The other one has been carried less.

I have shot them both, Chief's revolver is a little out of time, but both will put the bullet where you aim them.

Neat to have two DS's that went through the Depression, WWII, the 50's, 60's, and were finally turned in for exchange to Lawman Supply in the 80's.

Wish they could speak.

Thanks For Sharing

Great story there SlamFire1 my friend. Much like you, I wish your
old Colt's could speak; as there is just no telling what kind'a stories we
folk's might learn~!

Att: Cocked & Locked my friend-

I know this is just a guess on my part, but for some reason the initials
NPD make me think maybe it stands for Newark (NJ) Police Department?
It would be exciting too forward an inquiry to their deaprtment, to find
out for sure.

Cocked & Locked: could it be the Norfolk Police Department? That might actually make a certain amount of sense, considering you are from N.C.
