I purchased a Colt Detective with the serial number AD 33xx. Any Idea of the date. I have exhausted my resources in my search.
Thanks for any help.

I have not been able to find any DS with a serial number starting w "AD".

Hope you don't take offense but I couldn't find any Colt revolver that you might have likely mistaken for a Detective Special with a serial number starting w "AD".

Folks around here are usually very helpful so I imagine you haven't gotten an answer because they were also unsuccessful.

Worry not, someone will come along w the answer.

BTW, calling Colt is a good strategy

In 1985 Colt started using a double letter prefix on the "D" frame guns.
This started with the "AA" series.

Since production of the Detective Special stopped in 1986, my guess is that the "AD" series was in the last run of "D" frames made in the 1993 to 1995 parts clean up last production series.

Call Colt during normal business hours and they'll give you a production date over the phone.

Thank you for your reply. I went back with a loupe this morning and the serial # clearly starts AD. Thought maybe my aging eyes were deceiving me. I will give Colt a call this AM and post back.
Thanks again

I spoke to Colt on Friday and was told that this Detective Spec. was made in 1993.
They told me that the new Mustang is slated to be shipped at the end of the month.
