just purchased a used colt king cobra..good price 400.00 anyone have any exp. with these...could use your insight and wisdom...thanks mike ;)

A buddy of mine bought one new about 15 years ago. 2.5" barrel. Neat little snubbie, heavy though. Always liked that model and always wondered why they stopped making them.

I don't think Colt understands how to be gun company. The King Cobra was/is a nice revolver. I'm still expecting anyday for Colt to announce that they're selling off their assets and closing their doors.

I've always liked them and always wanted one, but never got around to it. I still have my 1990 and 1991 catalogues with the King Cobra in them. I liked them, especially at the time, because I could have gotten a Colt revolver at a more reasonable price than a Python. I still watch out for them in gun and pawn shops, but haven't seen any good prices on them when I find them, which isn't too often. I now have a Python and an Anaconda, so a Cobra in some variety may be added.....some day.

King Cobra

Great shooter. I actually sold mine many years ago. Big mistake. :(

Sounds like you fellas had good luck with yours. I had a new KC and twice within the 1st month i had to replace the hand ( or pawl ) spring due to seriously going out of time. I traded it with the 3rd new spring for a GP 100 . Am i the only character to have timing grief with these ?

I have a 6" model. It is very heavy and I also had timing problems out of the box. It went back to Colt and they kept it for three months. When it came back it was OK and has remained so. The action is smooth and it is accurate. I think I paid $379 for it new. The last one I saw at a show was priced at $650. It didn't sell.

King Cobra

$400 is a good price for a nice used one. I tend to see them closer to the $500 range in nice shape. The 6 incher is the most common size, followed by the 4. The 2 1/2 incher is very unusual and you will not find many ( if any ) around.
The stainless guns tend to out number the blued ones about 25 to one from what I see.
The King Cobra has been known to be built very well. It's a strong heavy frame. Good luck with it.

King Cobra

I paid $500.00 for my ss 4 inch. I deem it money well spent. The grip is extremely comfortable and the gun is accurate. It is indeed a heavy gun which helps with recoil.

New SW 686 sell for more and are not worth more. Used 686 may be less expensive and a good alternat.

I have a 4" King Cobra in Bright Polished Stainless, what a gun! It is seriously one of my very favorite handguns. It has feel, balance, accuracy and looks. Mine has been reliable but I will admit that I seldom shoot it anymore. Once I found out how scarce one is that is 99.5% LNib is, it has become a safe queen.

the king cobras i've seen & fired have been top-notch. i currently own a 4" anaconda and am very pleased with it as well

Yup...Thats my story too. I had one of the early King Cobras.
In a fit of lust I traded it for a S80 Colt. A few years later I bought another new one. It wasn't the same quality. The first was polished nicely and the 2nd was matte brushed. The first had a smooth action and was very accurate. The second did not and was not. The first's cylinder locked up tight and true. The 2nd's was just good enough.

I miss the first and got sick of looking at the 2nd so I traded it the first chance I got.

Live and learn as they say! :(

I had a Trooper MkIII [blue] and a King Cobra [Stainless] they were both fine guns but for some reason or another I sold them both off...
