Colt python 4.25" or 3" thoughts

Ok… you fellas convinced me! Colt Python New Model 3” is next on my list… Give me 3-7 weeks of layaway.

Unless a Model 58, 1917, Colt baby Cobra.. comes up

Here are pics of a couple of 6 inchers. I found out a loooooong time ago I was born poor and was going to remain poor, but no reason not to have what you want and enjoy.

Yeah, I don't think they wanta have the new ones compared to older royal blue. They'd have to do it justice and I doubt they could even for 15 bills.

The shiny stainless kinda grows on ya.

My lgs is 1499.

Royal Blue New Python would cost at lease $500 more
 
Same here. I rarely see an old model Python in stainless at a show or gun store. If I do see a stainless, it's usually priced higher than a comparable blue model.

Just like the older Colts. Still a hit or miss. Figured they would have learned the first time. Luckily I have been spared the headaches with both the old and the new one.

The 686 I have pictured is a no dash model. When I bought it at a gun show they had a Colt next to it at a gunshow. I chose the 686 over the python because the action was a lot smoother, forty plus years later it got even smoother.

I like the 3" guns in general, and realize the older 3" Pythons are very desirable big $$$$ deals. But no way around it, the L and N frame S&Ws and the Pythons, are big guns. The short 3" barrels don't turn them into little carry guns. With these big revolvers, I'd go for the 4"/4.25" barrels...

I guess my experience is hit or miss, but the new Colt revolvers are well designed and worth the price. Double action is smooth like ball bearings. Cylinder glides open and shut like the door on a luxury car. Single action trigger is not great (intentionally in order to pass drop test laws in California and Massachusetts) and the rear sight is kind of sloppy. I ordered Wilson rear sights and I may have a gunsmith clean up the single action break sometime.

As for reliability/manufacturing quality, my 4.25” Python and Anaconda have been flawless. My 3” Python had issues after about 50 rounds, where the trigger would not reset and sometimes the cylinder failed to rotate. I sent it back to Colt, and they fixed it and paid shipping both ways. Invoice said they removed “debris in action.” The repair cost me $0.00, but I was without the gun for about seven weeks. I make no excuses for it leaving the factory with some kind of loose crud under the side plate, but it was a simple fix; and all in all, in my opinion Colt is making the best new production revolvers on the market now. I say this as a lifelong S&W fan, but all my S&Ws are pre-lock, and most were bought used, meaning somebody else would have dealt with any glitches or defects that may have left the factory. I also have a recent production Ruger GP100, and it is fine but rough and crude in every way alongside my Pythons.
