Colt Officer's Model ACP Series 80. This was easily one of dad's favorite handguns by far. He purchased it new in 1988. He put a lot of money into it and shot it so much that he actually went through a barrel in the mid-nineties (after he retired). However I never cared for it, but with dad's passing I just didn't feel right getting rid of it. It was my wife's idea to see if my son would want it. Marc was thrilled to get it. A compact, short barreled 45 Colt appeals to him and it was grandpa's gun which makes it even better. I took him to the range and he put a couple boxes through it. Loved it. Dad would be happy that Marcus appreciates it and I'm happy as well. Right now Marcus is away at Coast Guard basic training (Cape May, New Jersey) and then he has a four year enlistment. I'll hold onto it until he can either have it sent to him or when he gets out (he might end up in a anti-gun state). The important thing is it's staying in the family. However I cleaned it today. Next time Marc gets that chore.

A great gun, priceless family memories, and the perfect heirloom to be passed down to your son.

Great gun, I have a couple, good on you for preserving the family legacy.

And, good on your boy for joining the Coast Guard, you obviously raised him right. Best of luck to him.

Nice little pack around piece. Looks like it has the King's conversion and some other goodies. Glad you're able to keep it in the family.
I have a couple of them as well, one as Robar saw fit.

My youngest daughter gets a Colt Defender we reworked one winter. Other daughter gets my Colt Officer enhanced That I have carried and loved. After that they can fight over rest of the Colts and Dan Wesson . I only agreed to give each 1 of their choice.

nice tale. +1 to op's son for joining uscg. while it may be hard for a young coastie to have a personal handgun he should use every chance to shoot at uncle sam's expense.

I told Marcus to inquire about private firearms when he reaches his unit (command? Unsure what they call it in the Coast Guard). Dad stored my guns for the years that I was in the Regular Army so now I'm doing it for my son. Seems appropriate.

What a great story. I'm happy to hear you kept your dad's 1911 and that his grandson seems to love the gun as much as he did.

Thank your son for his service, God bless.
