Colt's Government Model

So i recently picked up a Series 70 Government Model, in factory Nickel at an estate sale for a great deal. Its a little rough, but Id like to bring it back to its former glory.

The previous owner (now deceased) was a big dummy when it came to his quite nice firearm collection.

HE ELECTRO PENCILED HIS SS # INTO EVERY GUN :banghead:

Now, how can I go about removing this engraving. It is on the underside of the dust cover, where the Nickel is matte finished.

Also, does anyone know what Colt Charges these days for a refinish?

You can't remove it.

It will have to be de-plated, draw-filed out, re-polished, and then re-plated.

Colt is not currently accepting refinishing work.

I would suggest Fords.
They will likely do a better job then Colt, and probably for less money.

My suggestion as well.

Another option might be Robar. Their NP3 is a nickel-teflon that looks nice and looks similar to a matte nickle/hard chrome type look.
