Not a chance man, the liberal media in this town will grind this thing into a pulp before they will let it go. There is not much going on here so they will be at the scene for days to come with live re-hashes and will probably go to a local range for a demonstration of how deadly the weapons are just to make the old people around here soil their depends. This town just plain sucks. I'm sure that he got it at the local gun show also, so that will be nice to here sometime in the future. I'm sure he was a nice quiet guy that never caused his neighbors any trouble, " He was such a good kid":scrutiny:

So unless the gun was made prior to 1994, it is not an assault rifle, and the Federal government says so.

I appreciate your point, but the 1994 ban was on "assault weapons" -- which is a made-up definition that could mean anything. Couldn't a rolling pin or a brick be an "assault weapon"?

An "assault rifle" is a medium cartridge (bigger than pistol caliber and smaller than your 30-06 deer rifle) weapon that is capable of fully automatic fire. You can purchase and own a fully automatic weapon like a Thompson submachine gun, a German Sturmgewehr (the original "assault rifle") or a WW2 Browning BAR if you jump through a bunch of background check hoops, register yourself and pay a $200 transfer tax.

The 1994 so-called "Assault Weapons Ban" (AWB) has nothing to do with AK-47s, assault rifles or machine guns, but the anti-gunners are happy to confuse the sheeple into thinking that it does.

I'm preaching to the choir, but we need to tell as many people as we can about the distinction between "assault weapons" and "assault rifles" if we want to start getting some ground back on the 2nd Amendment. We need to do this ourselves, no politician is going to do it for us.

I dunno. They seem pretty quiet about it so far, considering.

No one has actually died, see? Its not news until someone assumes room temperature.

Hi, Readyonthe Right,

So far as the federal government is concerned, federal law defines a "semi-automatic assault weapon". It says nothing about caliber and does include semi-auto rifles designated as AK-47's. If a firearm is full automatic or select fire, it is a machinegun, not a "semi-automatic assault weapon", and is covered in another section of the law. Since the law also defines a weapon as a firearm, I don't know that anyone has ever tried to include a brick in the assault weapons ban.

Some state or local laws have wider definitions, some narrower. But once in a while it is convenient to needle the press by pointing out that something they call an assault rifle is not and cite federal law to prove the point.

"We only had .45s," said Sgt. Brent Mull, spokesman for the Columbus Division of Police. "We were outgunned, but he was outmanned."

The 1911 has worked just fine in combat conditions around the world.

Rifle vs pistol is not the best thing but shooting from a moving car, it is much easier to steady yourself with one hand and shoot with the other using a pistol.
