What water to saltpeter ratio do you use when making Combustible Paper Cartridges? I know you dont have to use saltpeter but since i already have 2lbs of it I reckon i ought to use it.
Thank You

From what I've heard, if you use cigarrette paper they're already nitrated so you don't have to treat them.

But, I've also heard of using nitrated phone book pages, which appeals to my cheap nature. I'd like to know the best mix also, since I bought 5 lbs of saltpeter to make some black powder. I should be a able to spare a couple tablespoons.

Look at the extreme opposite end of the spectrum, the rounds on the 120mm smoothbore of the M-1 series tanks shoot a round with combustible cardboard casing. I assume it's some kind of laminate-treated nitro-cellulose paper, but all it spits out is the metallic cap at the bottom, like the end cap of a shotshell.

And they cost north of $2k apiece. :)

Alright fellas got the saltpeter, water, and coffee filters in a bowl. How long should i let it soak? Can I let it set overnight?

Good job Arcticap, din't have that info available to share, thanks...other computer suffered an ESD attack from my finger...
Anyway what you posted will surely work...Used 3 1/2 tablespoons KNO3 to 1 cup of extremely hot water from the tap. Pour in beeker and thuroughly desolved KNO3.
Dip the sheets in the solution pat um in the pan and flip over and do again in very hot water.
You must keep the KNO2 dissolved so it spread evenly in the paper. I jus' do it on burners so I can keep it heated.

Coffee filter work great to make saltpeter fuses. It should also work great for the use of making paper cartridges. I have been expirementing with making my own 44 cal. pellets just for the purpose of premade cartidges attached to mini ball. I use equal parts of water to kno3. Water needs to be brought to a boil and everything in solution. No need to soke the paper just dip. Placing them into a hot dry skillet will speed thr drying process. a few seconds on each side and your in business. As an added precation or to seperate batches add a little food oloring to dye to the filters that have been treated. One added note. KNO3 is very corsive. I would not leave a gun loaded with the cartridge for an extended period of time.
