Commander slide locking open prematurely

My relatively new Commander's (less than 300 rounds) slide locks open prematurely. I sent it back to Colt and they said they fixed it.

I took it to the range today and fired 62 rounds through it. It locked open on round 4 and again on round 54.

It locks open just as if the magazine was empty. My hands were nowhere near the slide lock lever. And my 1979 vintage Colt Mark 4 does not do this.

Any suggestions?

The shelf which engages mag. follower is probably too deep- ogive of bullet is bumping slide stop as slide cycles. Remove slide from frame, insert slide stop, insert loaded magazine and see where bullet is in relation to slide stop shelf. If this is the culprit (pretty common), dress down stop. Don't remove so much metal that it won't contact follower as designed.

Round bumping slide stop

I had a similar problem with my auto ordinance 1911A1. Rounds would bump into the last round hold open lever. I switched to a curved magazine follower (as opposed to flat follower) and the problem went away.

My Pro Carry had the same problem but it happened a whole lot more often. I tried 3 different slide stops and they all did the same thing. Ended up taking one out of a Colt and filing it down a bit. It's been 100% ever since.

Exactly what part of the slide stop did you file? And, how much did you file off? Just enough to remove the bluing? A little more?
