I looked at a .308 Saiga the other day in a shop. It was Around $329, I think. It had a synthetic stock.

I noticed the trigger was kind of funny. Instead of pivoting rearward, like the 7.62x39 model (and AKs), it kind of levered up towards the receiver.

Has anyone else seen this? Is the FCG different in these rifles?

Are these rifles as tough and durable as the 7.62x39 models? Anyone have any experience or knowledge of these models?

I'm just wondering if I should consider one...

Thanks,
Steve

good rifle though funky trigger is what I hear.

should be every bit as good as the 7.62x39 and 223rem versions. I have the 7.62x39 and 223rem myself and plan on converting both to dragunov type stocks.

308 version is convertible just like the rest though might require little extra work over other 2 versions.

1 major thing that sucks is no hicap magazines for 308. however I have heard of people modding the 8 rnd magazine to hold 10 rounds. hopefully that will change with awb going bye bye if all goes well.

$329 is bit high, though the supply is not as abundant as it once was and saiga's seem to be bit hard to find. $250-$270 is bout where it should be.

16 inch version reported to have some muzzle flash.

The Saiga .308 is a bit different. What they did was make a long modified trigger to use in the .308 Saiga. It looks a lot like a standard trigger group, except that it has a long trigger spot welded to it. You can see how it will pivot up instead of back. This pic is from my .308 conversion. What you see is the trigger and bolt hold open device.

This next pic is of the standard Saiga .308 trigger against the rifle with a RSA trigger installed. You can see a big difference.

The price they want may seem to be high in other places, but where I live it is about average. $225 to $250 for a 7.62x39 model and $300 plus for the .308.

Oh..if you get one, do the trigger conversion. You'll have to go to a different buttstock, but it was definitely worth it for the better trigger.

Just had one for a couple of weeks and sold it. The trigger setup on an AK type of weapon is geared for a pistol grip stock. Saiga, in their quest to have a non-AK looking AK, had to create the weird looking trigger setup to work with a non pistol grip stock. Mine was accurate and reliable. Downside was the polymer 8-shot magazine which is the only thing you can get for them - when you can get them. There weren't any extra magazines two months ago. They were on backorder from Russia. Via boat. I'm not making this up. Lots of folks like them. I didn't like mine. It's not an assault rifle. It's not a battle rifle. It's what they advertise it to be - an inexpensive 8 shot hunting rifle. If that's what you're after, you'd probably like it. I think the cheesy polymer magazine makes it too hard to rack the bolt back on a full magazine, but that's just me. They run about $295 in my neck of the woods (for the .308). I understand the other calibers cost considerably less.
