Does anyone have any experience smoothing out the horrible trigger on the 308 Saiga? Great shooting rifle, but the trigger definitely needs work. I want to leave the gun in the factory configuration, except for the Tapco stock it came with.

You won't be able to really do much to it in stock configuration because of the wishbone linkage between the trigger and the sear provides for a really mushy, long pull. The only real hope you have it to just convert it. Sorry!

I feel your pain.
When I got mine,I ran a magazine through it then converted it.
Worst pull I ever felt. Not much your going to do with the way it travels,
but a good polish job should help some.

Dinzag may be able to point you in the right direction or get you a polished factory trigger but the main reason the S308 trigger sucks so bad is the awful linkage setup they gave it.

That's why everyone will tell you to convert it as the factory setup is fairly hopeless for getting a nice trigger pull.

I always just converted mine and went with the Arsenal 2 stage which is excellent.

Nothing comes to mind if you want to keep it unconverted. My .223 was super spongy also.

The S308 factory trigger is much worse than the other saigas (provided we are not discussing the ver21). It is not the wishbone linkage found in the others. I do not know how anyone could stand to shoot the stock 308 trigger. It is not even a trigger than one pulls. It moves up not backwards. One literally has to lift it, not press it. It is not something that can be tuned into a decent trigger. It needs to be replaced plain and simple. The others saigas just have crappy triggers. The S308 truly has an unusable one. I would either get a different gun or replace the trigger (which will offer a bunch of other benefits as well).
