Hey folks,

Every once in a while I read a thread about what would be a good concealed carry gun that fits certain criteria. On another forum, someone asked if anyone would consider carrying a Ruger Alaskan. Lots of people said it was too heavy or too thick, etc........ I'm not sure how other states define concealed carry, but here in Wisconsin, it also included carrying a loaded handgun in you automobile, not just on your person.

With that in mind, I've concealed carried everything from my LCP to my Alaskan, N frames and 1911s. Since our state finally joined the other 48 states and started allowing concealed carry, I've only carried a handgun concealed on my person, once. But I live in very rural area and hardly ever get in my truck witout one, but I don't carry at work. I have enough tools pulling my pants down as it is.

So, no responses really required, but in WI, concealed carry can mean many things, heck it even included carrying a concealed knife. Not ranting or ripping anyone, but a concealed carry handgun can mean different things to different people. I know, a handgun in a briefcase is very slow to action if needed, but it's still better than at home in the safe.

Thanks for listening.

You're right the definition varies from state to state. Many, mine included, your car is an extention of your home so concealing it in your car is okay and not covered under ccw laws.

When we finally got Concealed Carry here in Missouri one important thing that was addressed was being able to carry a handgun in a vehicle concealed without a permit. Before a concealed weapon in a vehicle was a felony.

Out permit numbers did not go up as quickly as one would have thought. This was due to most people just want to be able to carry a handgun in a vehicle out of sight without it be a felony. In Missouri you only need the Concealed Weapon Permit to carry on your person.

You are right about carrying all sizes of handguns. I pack everything from an LCR-22 through my 9-1/2" 480 Super RedHawk. The 480 Ruger in the seat under a coat is definently a concealed carry handgun where I live.

Not in Virginia. The permit is only good for guns.

Typically, when concealed carry is discussed it means having a gun hidden on your body. Talking about loaded handguns, loaded rifles and loaded shotguns in the car is interesting, but not as hard to do as finding a handgun you can hide on your body.

Florida regards a lawfully-carried firearm as "concealed from the ordinary sight of another person." The license to carry in such a manner is good for any weapon legal to possess in the state, not just firearms.
While Florida does not consider a motor vehicle interior to be an extension of one's domicile, it remains to be seen whether or not one could (or would) be prosecuted for violating the state's open-carry ban if one wore in an OC-style a firearm that was "concealed from the ordinary sight of another person" while the wearer was within the vehicle. After the passage of SB234, which decriminalized the brief, non-threatening open display of a normally-concealed firearm, I started wondering about that, and started a thread on it here:

http://forums.opencarry.org/forums/...permissible-quot-officially-quot-or-otherwise

For non-licensees, a firearm must be "securely encased" and "not on the person or otherwise readily accessible." This basically translates to inside some kind of container or compartment that requires a lid or door to be opened to gain access. Gloveboxes and center consoles (with lids) are acceptable.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I guess the definition varies more than I thought. Incidentially, in WI you can also "open carry". We could actually open carry since the beginning of time, I think. The law never went away, or I should say, a law never prohibited one from open carrying. Our concealed carry does not allow loaded rifles or shotguns in vehicles.
