concealed carry without holster???

The only handgun I have ever carried without a holster was my .38 deringer that I would put in half-cock and drop in a vest or inside pocket. I would never carry one in an unsecured postion where it could fall out on the ground and cause a negligent discharge.

bianchi makes some real inexpensive iwb holsters, i have one w/ my model 60 revolver, no problems at all, was a little tight at first, after holster molded to it, it goes in and out like a hand in a glove.

That Glock with the "safe action" trigger and a clip for carrying with that "safe action" trigger exposed gives me chills. It makes my butt hurt just lookin' at it.

IMHO, Glocks are not safe to carry without good leather, non-flexable leather, covering the trigger. I don't like the idea of carrying 'em concealed anyway, much less with no holster!

I agree with you for stock Glocks. The only reason I use my "Glok Klip" is because I've got an NY-1 trigger spring, increased power striker spring, and 3.5# connector. End result is a trigger pull that starts at 5 pounds and ends at 7-8. Kind of like a revolver that stacks. Still working on getting the takeup all the way up to 7-8 pounds too, but I'm not sure if it's physically possible...

I'm skimming just ot say that it's possible to put a full frame pistol in the inside pocket of a leather jacket, i've done it a few times with some airguns I own just for kicks and it seemed to work quite well, even with my heavy weight airsoft guns.

but lint and other junk could easilly get stuck in the gun though, I supposed it's always a bad idea to wear guns without holsters, but it works in Hollyweird right? :D

I can't personally imagine carrying ANY gun outside of a holster, but then I view the holster as part of a complete "safety process" I apply to my guns. If a handgun is loaded with one in the chamber, it's in a holster whether the holster is on my body or not. It's a message to me and to my 21 year old son that lives with me, that it's loaded. It's the house rule.

As far as the PT111, since it's a DA only with safety and loaded chamber indicator I suppose one could argue that would be safer outside of a holster than a Glock or Sig. I'll admit I don't use the type of holster I use for the rest of the guns I carry, just a simple cloth type from Uncle Mike's ($14) COB, but it's still in a holster if for no other reason than consistency and to keep it clean from sweat, dirt and body oils.

A double action revolver in a coat pocket is fine, so long as the fit is good and nothing else is in the pocket. The pocket functions as the holster. DA/SA autos might also work depending on their size. Smaller ones should be OK. SA only semis are no good unless they're kept uncocked with nothing the chamber.

I recommend carrying only in a quality holster that covers the trigger. I can just hear the opposing attorney now...

Carrying your business

I don't intend any disrespect toward anyone, but if you train well and carry safely and use only ammo admired and respected by the ACLU....you're still likely to see that "Opposing Attorney" at some point in your life. There are rules to any manner of carry. Build your own set: no wandering fingers close to the trigger...no keys, change, pocketknives or other junk in the same pocket. While I enjoy a good pocket holster, if I have a need to put the weapon in my pocket I KNOW which end's up...at ALL times. My pockets are made to safely cradle and carry the firearm, I personally reinforce the pockets with an extra layer of cloth well sewn, and I don't do jumpin' jacks...But everybody to his or her own drill.

I've carried either a P3AT or Kahr PM9, both with belt clip, at 4 o'clock in my belt every day for the last 2.5 years with no problems whatsoever. Round in the chamber. Both guns have a long heavy trigger pull and you'd have to be pretty dense to have an AD with either. Just clean 'em once a week to keep lint out of the action....but you do that anyway with your carry gun, right?

IHMO the belt clips are a very good thing, at least for me. I probably would not carry 1/2 as much as I do if I had to fuss with a holster every day. With the clip I just stick it in my waist and off I go. Yes it stays secure during running, working in the shop, on my car, you name it.

Practice your draw and you're almost as quick as a holstered weapon. I can draw and fire a round on target at 7 yards with my belt clipped pistols in under 2 seconds. Usually only about .5 seconds slower then I can manage with my IDPA rig.

Carrying your business

I agree. Cleaning every day is a must. I well remember those who are now gone on telling me when I was first out of the service what they used...one old judge used Vaseline on his .25 because he felt it was better. With a attentive cleaning and the lubes we now have the advantage of carrying anywhere inside your clothes can be as safe as you cause it to be. Again, with apologies to Colonel Jeff Cooper...gun safety is between your ears and not in your hands. (paraphrased because I don't recall exactly how he said that).:D
