Concealed Permit

Well I finally got my permit today, no more going back & forth to the mail box.
Just a few days short of the 90 days projected from Florida's Dept. of Agriculture.
Now, which one to carry:
Browning PDA 380
Accu-tek 380
Smith & Wesson 40 cal.
CZ 70 32 cal.
Smith & Wesson 38 special
Taurus PT92 full size

been thinking about a Kel-Tec 380, hard to find at the places I have gone to here in N.E. Florida. My next door neighbor has one, it is a little smaller than my Accu-Tec but not much. Neither one of them fit my hand very good, but I don't plan on having to handle it that much.

If the Kel-Tec or the Accu Tek don't fit your hands, then don't buy one of them. I'm assuming the guns are too small? Time and time again, I've seen students with big hands or long fingers, get their fingers in front of the muzzle when dropping the magazine, or when getting the good two handed grip with these little guns. Get something a little larger so that you don't have that issue.

man, I am still waiting and watching and waiting for mine to come in. I hate checking the mail now, because it still isnt here. They cashed the check on 3/31 and havent sent me anything saying I screwed it up, so I am just sitting on my hands now.

ETA: Is there any way to check the status of an application once it has been submitted, or is it just a wait.


BTW, to keep this gun related, I plan on carrying my Ruger P89 until I get something smaller and more convenient.(once I am in a state that allows it.)

Need to test Fire Guns

Before buying, you need to hold and shoot the various guns to see how they fit and feel in your hands and how well you can shoot them.

Have you also considered small Glocks? They are less likely to rust out in your climate. Also cost of ammunition? 9mm Parabellum and 38 Spec are now the most affordable middle power pistol rounds, (if money is a consideration).

Suggest you go to a gunshop/ range that rents guns and try the prospective guns out out if you can't borrow one from a buddy.

I'm biting my nails waiting on mine to come as well. In the mean time the HK USP Compact .45 in my messenger bag comes to the truck every time I go somewhere.

The gun I most often carry is a Walther PPK .380. However I have also been known to have an XD45 Compact stashed in my camera bag when it is with me. If it is one of my big bags, if it is the small one then it will be the PPK.

What models are your S&W .40 auto and .38 Special revolver? I would lean toward those, depending. The Browning BDA is a neat little gun, but it is the size of many compact 9mms that fire a more powerful cartridge, as is the CZ70. I know little of this Accu-Tek. If it is pocket-sized and reliable it might make a good backup or secondary gun. The Taurus is serviceable but quite large and bulky for concealed carry.

Hey cmanhome, I just notice you live in Green Cove Springs. I took my motorcycle safety class at the truck driving academy facility in Palatka. Do you know Ernie Huber, the R/C helicopter guy? Does he still do his yearly air shows at his private strip. Been to a couple and they were a blast! I was stationed at Mayport.

I talked to Florida earlier this week, and they said there was a problem with my fingerprint card. I asked what, and they said that they didnt understand the agency that did them. I had called ahead of time and asked if my unit security manager could do it and they said yes. I explained this to them and they said ok, no problem we will process your application. Anywho, I called them again today to make sure there were no other hangups that I missed, and was told it was already in the mail and I should see it in 7-10 days.

Cant wait.
