I've finally narrowed my choices down to these 7 autoloaders. I want a good all around pistol, one that is accurate at the range, but not too big to carry when hunting, and maybe occassional concealed carry. Also, I chose 9 mm, and the maximum price is $500.

I had began with this list: Beretta 92 FS, Beretta Px4 Storm, Bersa Thunder, Browning Pro, CZ 75 or 85, CZ 100, CZ P-01, FN P9, Glock 17, Glock 19, Kahr TP series, Ruger P89, Ruger P95, Sig Pro SP2022, Smith & Wesson M&P, Smith & Wesson 910, Smith & Wesson Sigma, Springfield XD, Steyr M-A1, Taurus PT1911, Taurus PT 24/7, Taurus PT 909, Taurus PT 911, Taurus PT92, Walther P99, Witness P, Witness Steel

And narrowed it down to the ones shown in the poll. Please give me advice and reasoning for your suggestion...Thanks a lot!

I would say go with the XD or CZ, with a slight edge to the XD. It's a relatively inexpensive gun with a good reputation and lots of knowledge and accessories available for it. Get yourself a two-tone model and you'll have a nearly corrosion resistant pistol. If you prefer a more conventional hammer fired system with decocker, the CZ can provide that.

I didn't see it on your list, I assume you left out most Sigs out due to price? If so consider a used one, especially a Certified Pre-Owned(CPO) Sig P228 or P229.

Go with the CZ. All I can say is that those guns are flat-out great. Accurate, ergonomically pleasing, the whole nine. You won't be disappointed if you get one.

I voted for three, including the Steyr M, the SA XD and the Taurus PT 24/7 PRO...

If I was buying a 9x19mmP gun, my first choice would be the Steyr M9-A1. It feels the best in the hand, shows superior workmanship (not that either of the other two choices are poor, mind you), and points naturally. Just get enough magazines to last you...

If I was buying a .45ACP gun. my first choice would be the SA XD45 Service. The Steyr M series doesn't come in .45ACP, and the XD45 has an established record of reliability compared to the Taurus 24/7 PRO (even though the Taurus that I have has functioned perfectly to date through the relatively small amount of ammo that I've put through it). Although the Taurus 24/7 PRO in .45ACP feels slightly better in my hand than the SA XD45, the XD still feels quite good...

The Steyr M9-A1 is available from CDNN right now for appreciably less than it's 'worth' due to Steyr's problems...

The Taurus PT 24/7 PRO in .45ACP should be available for about $100 less than the SA XD45, given the difference in dealer's prices...

For what it's worth...

For $500, I'd also add a used or CPO Sig P229 or P228 to the list....and then I'd eliminate all the others on the list.

I'd eliminate the Taurus models right off the bat. In my experience I've seen a lot of problems with the Taurus plastic guns when used hard in training classes.

The Steyr would be OK, but it's an oddball design and unless you *really* like it, I'd go with another design.

The FN P9 has a good rep as a solid performer. It's a traditional DA/SA design though and the trend is running towards designs where the trigger pull is the same every shot. Still, it wouldn't be a *bad* choice.

The XD isn't bad either, but I'd go with the M&P if you want a plastic gun.

Personally, I reccomend either the S&W M&P *OR* the CZ-P01. They are both excellent guns. The are also the opposite of each other. It depends if you want a traditional metal DA/SA gun or a plastic gun with the same trigger pull each shot. Which type of action do you like better? That's how I'd decide.

I voted for the XD, but have you looked at the Sig Pro? Mine was $550, but you had a couple of guns that would be $500+ anyway on the original list. The Pro series is every bit as good as the P series.

I voted for the XD. It's a fine gun if you can only have one, very reliable. However, I'm curious, why these seven? Besides price, what is it about these?

Just wondering.

I voted CZ and XD, in that order. I like the czs a lot, as they fit my hands as well or better than nearly anything else on the market. XD, because they're pretty nice, too. But, the real question is why'd you pull the PT1911 from the list?

Maybe if I knew what your reasoning was in eliminating all the others.

I picked XD because I'm familiar with it. It'll do what you need. So will (almost) all the others, including those you (for whatever reason) eliminated.

i love my glock and my beretta but out of your choices i pick the cz :barf: because i really dont like the others, imo its the best of those

Let me know if you think I should reconsider any of these...

Beretta 92 FS - Too big and heavy, 8.5", 34.4 oz
Beretta Px4 Storm - Too expensive, $574.99
Bersa Thunder - bad reputation, or so I hear
Browning Pro - no longer exists
CZ 75 or 85 - Too heavy and too long, 8", 35 oz
CZ 100 - rather have the P-01 over this one
Glock 17 - don't want a glock
Glock 19 - don't want a glock
Kahr TP series - too expensive, $599.99
Ruger P89 - too wide and bulky
Ruger P95 - too wide and bulky
Sig Pro SP2022 - too expensive, $579.99
Smith & Wesson 910 - rather have the M&P over this one
Smith & Wesson Sigma - rather have the M&P, also long trigger pull
Taurus PT1911 - don't want a 1911 anymore, at least not yet
Taurus PT 911 - no rail
Taurus PT92 - Too heavy and big, 8.5", 34 oz
Walther P99 - too expensive
Witness P - too long, 8.1"
Witness Steel - too long, 8.1"

There's my "logic", I even included the techincal stuff like length and weight to back up my reasoning on some eliminations...tell me what you think, and why these 7 left are unusual?

I picked the XD because I own and shoot one with good results . . . I don't see the reason though for dropping the Walther P99 it is in the price range of several you opted for and is a hell of a pistol.

Glock. Get the real thing that wins every torture test instead of the copies that may or may not. More than anything else, I tend to buy the most reliable gun. That being said, all of those listed are good guns. Get what you like the best or whatever fits your budget the best. In a perfect world, we'd own one of each... except the Steyr. I have no interest in it at all. :) How the hell did it make the list? JK For that matter, I'd remove the HS Xd unless it was one of the new .45 models with the finish that doesn't rust.

Anything but the XD. It fits terribly in my hand and I hate how it feels. I would never buy one. I haven't shot it though so if you like the way it feels go for it.

I didn't vote since I dont have a preference but my friend has the Berreta Px4 Storm that you eliminated in a 9mm and it is a fun gun to shoot with the 17 round mags.

I voted for the XD, but I didn't read and see that I could have voted for more, so I would have also voted for the P-01. I own both, and I'm getting another XD this weekend. Excellent guns.

Cz, because my mothers people are from there. And I want to keep my poor cousins, who are probably working in the factory, employed and knee deep in perogies (pierogi).
