Get politically active and VOTE THE BASTARDS OUT OF OFFICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We ask ourselves every day – every minute – if those magazines had held 10 rounds, forcing the shooter to reload at least six more times, would our children be alive today?"
So, a third of the number of victims is an acceptable body count? At least, if they lived in a dream world where a 10-round mag limit magically stopped mass killings, their argument could make a little sense. At this point, it seems like they're just making things up.

This is just a start. A stepping stone. By this time next year if the courts dont reverse this we will be limited to single shot weapons only.

God forbid there is another shooting here where more than 3 people die. They will call for and Emergency Certify a bill confiscating all semi autos and anything with a detachable mag. That was the original goal in the first place.

Condolences to the citizens of CT.

Are there (rumored to be) exceptions for manufacture, or will Colt and Ruger (and??) be moving?

Not sure on exemptions for manufacturers. More than likely nobody will get to see the bills until after they are passed. I hope they all pack up and leave. Colt, Ruger, Mossberg, Stag and others. It is projected it would be a loss of 1.9 billion per year in tax revenue. Not that our lawmakers really care though. They will just raise taxes on gas/income/sales/etc.....

I think the angst is premature. I don't believe they have all the votes needed to pass it yet. If they pass this then we have to be true to our word of this being their last term in office if they voted yes on this incredibly stupid bill.

I won't promote any illegal actions here on THR, but at the big gun rally back on Jan. 19th at the capitol building, one of the big themes was defiance. I wonder how many will stop at words and simply roll over to the antis, and how many will defiantly keep their hard earned property without submitting to unjust and unconstitutional impositions.

Our house and senate are Democrat controlled and we have a Democrat governor. They have all the votes they need to pass this and then some. There has been an overwhelming majority of opposition to these laws but they all fell on deaf ears. It's going to be up to the courts to eventually stop these lawmakers before they call for full confiscation of all guns in CT.

Sandy Hook was their wet dream. They have been waiting for years for something massive and tragic to happen here. They didnt care when a beer distribution warehouse got shot up and 9 adults were killed but as soon as it was a school and children died they jumped on gun owners immediately.

Freeing yourself from tyranny isn't illegal, its written in the Declaration of Independence. It is our natural right to be free and to bear arms. No one can deprive you of that, only you can choose to give it up.

Another unenforceable law similar to what they have passed here in Colorado. They have neither the means nor the manpower to enforce a law such as this. It is merely another stumbling block in the way of justice so if you are picked up for something they have another means to prosecute you, similar to the government going after the bootleggers during prohibition for income tax evasion instead of bootlegging. You will be found guilty of something whether you are or not. It is a very sad statement of what our justice has fallen to.

Before we all go off on CT and call them commies and tyrants, read the article. Its VOTERS who are demanding this, not politicians. Voters who, sadly, lost children to gun violence. I don't see this as "the gov't is coming to get our guns!". These are grieving voters who are trying to right a wrong as best as they can.

The gov't responds to voters. If enough voters demand something, the politicians must respond, or as many of you have suggested, voters will vote them out of office. I really don't think the average politician cares one way or another about guns. He's simply trying to gauge what the public wants and then act accordingly, as he should. What we're seeing right now in the US is backlash against guns from VOTERS who are shocked by the number of mass shootings we're seeing. If you wanna get bent out of shape at something, get pissed at the people that want to ban guns, not the poor gov't that's trying its best to appease 310 million people who all seem to want something different.

Disclaimer: CT already had an AWB when the shooting took place. Its irrational to think that more bans will solve the problem. That actually makes me feel worse for those that lost someone.

EXACTLY the PROBLEM. Democracy never lasts. We are SUPPOSED to be a Constitutional Republic, wherein the sole purpose of the government is to Protect the rights of the INDIVIDUAL against the whims of the masses.

My rights will NEVER be taken from me.

As Charlton Heston used to say....

Some of the Newtown victims families came out in opposition to new gun laws. As did thousands of others who marched on the capital. The lawmakers ignored us all. They allowed the victims parents and siblings to dictate laws. This is unacceptable. If this was put to a public vote these laws would not stand a chance. It is just the lawmakers taking advantage of sandy hook to pass laws that they have wanted to pass for years.

It IS being put to a public vote. The next time there's an election in CT, voters will render their decision in this matter. If enough voters are anti gun ban and they demand the ban be repealed, it will be. If it turns out that more CT voters are happy with the ban, then it'll stay. Remember Clinton's ban? It expired in 2004 because American voters didn't want it anymore. If they did, you can bet that it would have been renewed.

In the end, democracy will be served. Our laws will reflect what the majority wants, and that's as it should be.

No. That's why we are a Republic, not a democracy. The government has limited powers in a Republic. The people retain all other rights and powers. In a pure democracy the people can vote themselves what ever they want. In a Republic the government can't give itself new powers. This limits the abuse of the majority on the minority. The majority cannot vote to establish a religion, confiscate property or take away other rights from the minority. In a pure democracy they could, in a Republic they can't.

The word democracy does not appear in the Constitution of the United States of America.

The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government - Constitution for the United States of America
