Considering a FAL. Talk me out of it.

I like military semi-autos (small, complex machines make my inner scientist coo with glee) very much. I only own a WASR-10 (which I love like hell). I've wanted to get into longer distance shooting, and I'm told, among other things, that FALs are nearly as reliable as AKs and highly accurate.

Either way, now that FAL receivers are under 400USD, I'm considering adding another rifle to my litter.

I'd be building it from a parts kit.

You've come to the wrong place for that. The only advice I would give is a wait a few months for the supply to start coming back up and the demand to fall off.

Edit: Did not see that you wanted to build from a parts kit. Go for it if you can find a good one. I would wait and get a DSA FAL.

A few months ago I purchased a PTR-91 KF from JLD and it is a great rifle. I wouldn't try to talk you out of it either.

Well, I didn't build it, I bought it about 23 years ago from a returning GI who got it at the PX in Germany so it bears no import markings. It's not a clone, but a genuine FN made FAL. I find it one of the the more fun rifles to shoot.

DONT DO IT. All the Democrats are smart enough to know that once you get a scary assault rifle that you will automatically go on an infant and/or puppy killing spree. Excellent choice, though the build your own option is much more restricted than they were back 5-10 years ago, due to kits being bought up and such.
