My step-son & I were talking about coyote hunting last night. What caliber & rifle would you suggest for starting out?
Thanks.
Thanks.
NICE!while I was deer hunting Sunday morning, my 45-70 worked just fine for me!
Bet all that shooting did wonders for the deer standwhile I was deer hunting Sunday morning, my 45-70 worked just fine for me!

I also like my .243 for coyotes, .223 or 22-250 are also good choices. I prefer a bolt gun myself but a lot of folks like the AR platform. The good old 12 GA with #4 buck or Dead Coyote is a fun way to hunt them as well..243 Winchester is ideal in a bolt gun.
My experience has been that a second shot is rarely possible in the event of a miss. Wily leaves very, very quickly. A bolt-gun is as good as any semi-auto, IMO.
