Considering new carry gun. Kimber vs. Colt

Your target above says "after accurizing". Can you let us know what you had done to it and how it was before this work?

Thanks!

Sure thing. As new, three cylinder throats measured 0.359” and three measured 0.360”. I enlarged 3 so they are all 0.360” now. I only shot two 6 round groups before with the same ammunition shot after so not a lot of data. But after groups were about an inch smaller with that same ammunition.

get a Smith...the Model 60 with a 3" bbl. to be exact. You'll never regret the choice.

You will regret the choice if you want a light da trigger pull. I've had many J-frame Smiths over the years (still have two of them) and none of them had a da trigger pull my wife can muster. I'm fine with them but the da pull leaves a lot to be desired, imo.

I still get a kick when a poster is trying to decide between two products, and then someone chimes in saying, no, get this third product instead. Especially when the third choice doesn't meet the asked for parameters.

Springfield Hellcat vs. SIG P-365? No -- get a Glock. Sigh. It's why I don't ever ask the internet denizens for help choosing anything when I am at that point (which, believe me, is frequently -- as the guys at my LGS well know).

Someone asks about 6-shot snubbies, and gets the suggestion for a 5-shot J-frame. I'm as huge of a S&W revolver fan as anyone on this forum, but my new(er) Colts have far better trigger pulls than any of the twenty J-frames I've owned over the years. (Now whether my Colts are still great in 60 years as some of my Smiths are is the subject of another post ... in 2080.)

I would opt for the Kimber. I haven’t handled a King Cobra but had a Night Cobra for awhile. The Kimber gets you the same capacity in a smaller and lighter package and in my opinion has the better trigger.

Well...since you asked....get a Smith...the Model 60 with a 3" bbl. to be exact. You'll never regret the choice. Rod
I have one, and I do not like it. The gun is for sale.

The trigger pull is terrible.

The OP is asking about revolvers that have much better trigger, and a sixth shot.

I picked up this DAO 3" Kimber earlier this year. I've handled several 2" versions in various shops and a 3" DA/SA, but had to order the 3" DAO as there were none locally. I'm extremely happy with it! I looked into the Colt briefly, but my sole experience with a Colt revolver (Anaconda) hasn't been great and the Cobra's were $150 more expensive when I was looking and I don't believe that premium was justified just for a prancing pony stamp.

Make sure you can find a holster you like before you purchase. I don't know about the Colt, but there's not many holsters that work for the 3" barrel and I had to made do with a universal leather one until I found a kydex that worked better, and ultimately got this Tucker holster that I had to wait quite some time for. I'm fairly stocky at 5' 8" and 205 lbs and carry this AIWB.

This was shot at 10 yards with .38's, I pulled the trigger as soon as the front sight hit the bullseye.

I have one, and I do not like it. The gun is for sale.

I had a 60 Pro. “Had” being the key word. 4 times it went back to S&W. The last 3 times it went back to correct what was screwed up by them the first time.

My next new revolver(s) will not be S&W’s.

I have.
If I were going to carry IWB, or pocket carry I wouldn't even consider a gun with an exposed hammer.
This will be an OWB carry gun with a sport coat worn over it. I generally prefer an exposed hammer, and with the carry method this one will be used with, I'm good with it.

I'm not interested in the spurless hammer. I want a full sized exposed hammer.
But the Kimber is thinner too I believe, which also makes sense for a carry gun.
This is a sort of 'not apples nor oranges' bit but, I carry the Colt Cobra, IWB, in a De Santis holster, strong side, am 5'8", 195#, with T shirt or reg shirt and no problems. This is said only to address hammer issues, lol.

Typically, the "thickness" of a revolver is determined by the diameter of the cylinder. Personally, I don't think the difference between the Kimber and the Colt is significant.

I find the Colts quite concealable (a Galco "Combat Master" and a GB Leather pancake shown).
