I am wondering if you can convert a 1911 from 45acp to 9mm? If so would you need the 9mm mag, extractor, recoil spring and other bits? Or is a new slide required?
Barrel, ejector, slide...and other bits?
Yep, not really practical to convert a .45 1911 to 9MM. 9MM 1911s are quite fun though, so I'd say add one to the collection.Just buy a 9mm 1911...there's tons of them out there now.
I'm wondering why you would want to?
I don't know what your price cutoff is, but here is S&W's 1911, available with a "bob'd" grip, lightweight frame, and in 9mm.Thanks for the input guys. I already have 3 1911s but wanted an aluminum framed 9mm commander with the bobbed)rounded heel. However, all new ones are in 45 or they're semicustom and too expensive.
I can't recall exactly what he used, but it gets a lot easier if you use a ramped barrel, which brings the proper angle with it for each caliber.HP Jeep
I remember a number of years ago I read an article in Guns and Ammo magazine where the author made a "5 in 1" Colt 1911.
