Back in January, I bought my first handgun, a Beretta PX4 9mm. I shot A LOT of guns and, in my price range, it really came down to the this one, the 92FS/M9, and the Taurus PT92. The only thing I am NOT crazy about on any of the Berettas is the slide mounted safety/decocker, but the guns are so good in every other way that it is easy for me to overlook.

I really like the PX4 in an objective, somewhat intellectual way. I've put almost 1000 rounds through it with only one hiccup, its comfortable, soft-shooting, seems really tough, etc. BUT...

It just doesn't warm my heart.

I am really thinking about trading it on a 92FS/M9. The 92 is, IMO, one of the classics, and among only a handful of truly beautiful pistols from a design standpoint (I'm an architect, so these things DO matter! ;).) Somehow, as much as I like shooting the PX4, I still lust after a 92 and I don't have the funds to buy it outright and have both. Plus, while I don't have a collection yet, I have one started, I think that no collection is complete w/o a Beretta 92.

Should I do it, or should I be satisfied with what I have?

Thanks guys!

Having carried a M-9 for many years in the Air Force, it will always remain near and dear to my heart. It is, indeed, a classic. Still one of my favorite guns to shoot. I highly recommend you follow your heart. IMHO, you should find one actually made in Italy rather than the US, as the purist will look for that if you ever decide to part with it. Good luck!

I agree with searcher451; Don't do it. I have a Beretta 90-TWO in .40 and aside from the decocker on the slide issue, I love it. It's tough, rugged, and refuses to quit. I USED to have to a 4.5" Colt King Cobra in .357 mag, and had to sell it, against my better judgement, at the request of a person who later turned on me. Not a day goes by that I don't regret it...sure, the grips were rough, but those could have been replaced easily enough, and even for being a steel behemoth, it shot point of aim at 7 yards with full house mags. Bottom line, you have to live with your decisions, and if you even begin to suspect you're not going to like one you're about to make, DON"T DO IT. You'll be much happier with yourself the next morning.

You will be a happier Architect.. lol

...

Well, IF you can sell your Px4, for 350 bucks (maybe a little more) or take a hit on trading it in for around 250 bucks, by all means, do it, as the platform of the M9 or 92's is far more forgiving, easier, to acquire accuracy with than the Px4's.. besides accessories choices, such as wood grips, Hogue grips, etc., IMO. And, having a Px4 40cal, it taught me long and well, and all my other guns came easy when it came to accuracy and recoil, after her..

But, like you, design, looks, do count in my buying book as well and I have always eyed the M9's, but like you, I do not like slide mounted safety's, and I had my Px4 converted to a G-model, decocker-only, like my SIGS frame mounted decockers-only, which I love, or my 1911's SAO with thumb-slide safety, but frame mounted, as well.

Do it, the sooner the better..

Do it. If you want the 92fs you won't be happy till you get it, and every time you see the PX4 you'll wish you had the 92.

Go to the Buy, Sell, Trade forum here on THR, and see if someone will buy it from you here, or make an even trade. You'll get much better money out of it than you would if you sell to a gun shop.

If it dont give ya the warm fuzzies, sell it. Don't trade it in. I traded a CZ P01, which I had for 1 month, for a S&W 1911(that I've wanted for a while), and couldn't be happier, of course I had to kick in some cash. Get what makes you happy:)
