Does anyone have experience, fact, or even opinions about the Corbon Powerball.

I have never done any penetration tests but they fire fine out of my Sig P226.

Having a deathly fear of MR Murphy and all his minions I figured that the ball would be less likely to jam in this gun or any other, than JHP which might hang on the lip. And I hope they will do just as well with terminal ballistics. I hope.

My paranoia comes from having my experience with my very first gun a Walther PPK/s 380 that could feed nothing reliable other than FMJ. And I swear it wanted to jam on those. I was young, stupid, and a 007 wanta-be.

I keep a mag full of them in my Star 9MM. They do feed well and they’re pretty stout (470 ft lbs!) I was at the range with that pistol, shooting FMJ at a paper plate on the berm for a while. The plate, totally perforated, was still in one piece. I then loaded up with Pow’RBalls.

The first shot made the plate disintegrate into a bunch of little pieces and left quite a little crater in the berm. The dirt went flying. Also, the report and kick were way more extreme. I’m satisfied.

Oh yeah, they work well in any gun in which I’ve used them (.380, 9X18, 9X19) never jamming once. I recommend them.

never done any meat tests, just went with most of the reports done by others. They work perfect in all of my guns. I like the design and the theory behind it. Hornady critical defense rounds seems very simllar, although I do think corbon has a patent on the power ball itself.
They are no pussy round to shoot either. If you have any doubts about hp rounds then IMO the powerball is a super choice..

I hope you didn't get rid of your Walther. That's a fine gun. I'm getting mine tommorow from the smithy and I'm too excited to even wait. N/e ways, back to your topic.....

I've never tried Powerball but that was because I found range report after range report that showed underwhelming penetrating power. The ultra low grain weight of their bullets is what I think keeps them from penetrating the way their same caliber contemporaries are able to. I didn't waste my time getting that ammo. It also doesn't stay in one piece. Not good when the load is already so light. I'd opt for Federal HST or Ranger T any day over Powerball.

Nope never sold the Walther. I don't tend to get rid of things. I just sort of accumulate.

Right now, I'm trying to accumulate a few Sigs and a few extra rounds for a rainy day.

And the rains are coming. Get an umbrella.

I believe the Golden Sabers are a fairly rounded designed hollow point. Try those out. I have never tried the Powerball mainly because I have hardly ever seen it.

I really don't care for it. But that's just me. I don't know how good the weight retention would be after impact, and I don't see this round penetrating deep enough. I like sticking with a good JHP (ie HST, Gold Dot, Golden Saber, PDX1). As long as you've tested a JHP with 100 successful rounds, I don't think there's much to worry about. If you can't get them to feed reliably then obviously you shouldn't keep your CCW pistol loaded with them!

But to be fair, I've never even tried the Pow'r Ball. The concept seems great if you have a dead on hit, but I don't know how it would perform through clothing and/or barriers.

Any modern Sig should feed HP's w/o a problem. If it doesn't there's something wrong. If Powerball makes you warm and fuzzy then go for it, but it should feed any HP just fine.

Powerball has generally not shown good results in controlled FBI protocol testing. Lots of core-jacket separation and insufficient penetration compared to other solid defensive loads such as Win. Ranger, Federal HST, Gold Dot and Fed. Tactical.

Also, barrier penetration is not good but that may be viewed either positively or negatively depending on your situation.

The only thing I could see using Powerball for would be if I had a gun that won't accurately feed anything but round-nosed ammo.

What you need to do is get several hundred rounds of good self-defense ammo and shoot it through. If you have no FTF's or other malfunctions then go with it. Don't choose a subpar round simply out of ungrounded fear.

Well were gonna hafta agree to disagree on this one.

As a Michigander I'm quite familiar with Evan Marshall and the gang
at StoppingPower. They are not just a bunch of telephone book shooters as Dig suggests. They have done extensive testing in "Jelly Blocks" during
their annual "Hoot N Shoots. Not to mention all the statistical findings of actual shhotings that have been published in three separate books.

Some pretty big names are involved and check in often. Current and retired LEOs. There is Good information available.

I'm an adult. I have to make my own decisions. The more information I
have at my disposal the better I can make those decisions. Ya just have to weed out the good from the bad. By makig a sweeping statement that StoppingPower is a waste is not correct.

My $.02.

I don't really like Powerball. It is a very shallow penetrator, tends to come apart, is more expensive than the rounds I like better and feel are more capable. My favorite round is the Federal HST, it is a fantastic bullet, very well designed, and I also like Gold Dots and Golden Sabers. never used Ranger-T but it is definitely a solid bullet. Your P226 should not have any difficulty feeding any ordinary bullet.

PowrBalls are a must have (along with Federal's Expanding FMJ) for the rare few who can carry a gun in NJ.

I forgot about NJ. In Maine I don't like them.
