Corn cob media question

This stuff is cheap; if your tumbling time is noticeably increased, throw the stuff out and put some new stuff in.

I used to use the fabric softener sheets and they came out looking very dirty, so I assume it works to remove some dust. Now I just change the media periodically. The stuff is cheap and lasts through many batches of brass. And, BTW, I switched to walnut media. Does a better job than corn cob and does not get stuck in primer holes.

I recently (last year) bought Lyman Tuff-nut wallnut media and put it in my rotary tumbler. That stuff will not pass through a flash hole and all I get done doing is going through brass checking for media stuck in the flash holes. What a pain. Other than that it is good stuff but I don't use it to clean with. I clean in a US cleaner and use my two tumblers for polishing and only.
I tried the pet litter wallnut in my rotary tumbler and it was a disaster. It disintegrated quickly and I couldn't get the dust out of it to start with. That tuff-nut I replaced it with has no dust in it to start with and doesn't seem to make any. If it didn't stick in the flash holes, I swear it would last me 20 years. It is hard stuff.
My old RCBS wallnut for the 1990s is mixed with my old RCBS corncob from the same time period and I use that in my vibratory for polishing and it still works well.

It only takes an hour in that vibratory tumbler, to put a spit shine on my brass after it spend 16 minutes in my Ultrasonic and is dried.

I agree with those that say if you only use it for polishing after the brass is wet cleaned, the media will last forever. And you aren't breathing contaminated dust.
