I've had her out to the range twice now, and both times it was a positive experience. She even said I was a good instructor.....:)

Of course, we covered the 4 rules first!

So...three months later....

She's tapping away at her home business on the P.C. the other night and I realize that I never cleaned my 336 Marlin after it's last trip to the range.

So I set up the card table, check the rifle empty (I'm a fanatic about that), pop off the lever, pull the bolt and set about to cleaning.

Several patches later, I'm eyeballing the bore and hear her say "Hey, aren't you breaking one of the four rules", as apparently I had let the muzzle "cover" her while sighting down the barrel.

All I can say was that I was tickled pink! She's a smart girl with a good head on her shoulders (as well as nice shoulders ;) ) and had apparently taken my yappin' at the range to heart!

Though I think having the rifle stripped with the bolt removed might exempt me from rule #1, I didn't realized that I had covered her.....and in my mind that's error enough.

Need to find an opportunity to get her back out to the range again. The little commie (Ukranian) in her needs to try out my converted Saiga.

My wife says the same when I have a semi-auto field stripped on the table. We've had a few go-rounds on this to the effect of...

1) If it's disassembled it's not a loaded firearm
and
2) If it's already laying on the table and she walks by who's fault is that? :neener:

In all seriousness though, I'll be very glad when I have my workshop and don't have to clean in the house so we can just avoid the whole thing altogether.

Likes to shoot, and retains what you teach her....Sounds like a keeper!

As long as it was disassembled, you didn't break any rules...But it is nice to still keep the muzzle pointed away from anyone, and she let you know about it.:p

So who's a better shot

I'm still waiting on a response to this.:D

So who's a better shot

All I'll say is that she's doing just fine, given her level of experience. She's on the paper and usually in the black.

She get's her due when she whollups me at Scrabble....:neener:

but then again....she won't even play Stratego with me any more .... so I'm going to limit my comments, in hopes that she'll go along for trip #3.

My wife and I have a routine --- we sit at the patio table, she does her nails, I clean my guns. I am a lucky, lucky man. :)

When she gets her permit, the deal we've made goes like this: first time at the range, she has to field strip and clean (under direction, of course). After that, whenever she wants to shoot --- I'll do all the maintenance.

My gamble is that this won't get too far out of hand. I might be up to my neck in brake cleaner by next year. :D

Yeah, I know. I took my husband to the range with me, and although I only let him clean my guns under close direction, he's not doing too bad and even remembers the four rules when I quiz him on them. I'm thinking I might let him get his own pistol soon, if anyone can recommend a good gun for a guy, something that won't kick too hard and will fit his hand ok.

He's a good boy, with a good head on his shoulders. Not bad shoulders either.

(Apologies to my husband, who is actually a fine shooter. The patronizing attitude just gets old.)

Hope I didn't sound "patronizing" re the nails. She has a fairly public presence. The nails don't impress me, unless the claws are out. :D

I am just soooo happy that I don't get any flack! (Except for the obsession part. Obsession? What obsession ...)

Heck, I do nearly all of the cooking. I wouldn't mind the extra cleaning, if it gives her some incentive. :)

Thank you for the insight, delta9. The original post looks completely different after reading yours. I hope you give the original poster credit for having good intentions, though.

Good, good!

I've just managed to convince mine to go with me next week. She's not anti-gun, but was forced into shooting when younger, so she's apathetic at best about them now. It's a bummer, because it's something we could enjoy together, and she's good when she steps up to the line, but it's not much to her.

SSN - wow, it's good to see there's another Mainah with a Saiga - I thought I was the only one!
