So I'm wanting to go shoot up some dogs. For all intents and purposes, I live in Portland, and obviously I can't shoot dogs right here in the city. So I'd appreciate it much if someone could share a decent coyote spot or two with me. Preferably west or south of Portland. Seems to me I shouldn't have to drive more than an hour to find a decent area. Especially if I go west.

Another thing I'm wondering is how dangerous hunting around here may be? Not very dangerous, I would imagine but is there any off chance I could be stalked by a cougar? My cousin will be hunting with me and I'm wondering if maybe I have him watch our 6 with the SKS?

I have tried calling coyotes at the in the coast range around the nehalem river but never had much luck. Part of this is because I ain't the best caller and partly because its thick and they can bust you befor you ever see them. I have had better luck going east and getting out in the high desert like Burns. I have "heard" of people calling in cougar but I have never talked to some one who has actully done it. There is alot better chance of calling in a black bear, and I have seen that done.
If you are a good caller I don't see why you cant have some success in the coast range, prob get out around the dairy farms.

The backside of the Cascades would be a much better bet, or the high-country in the gorge. Down in the valley there's too many people and way too much cover for any decent predator hunting. Way out East in the desert would be absolutely perfect, or on any of the larger farms mid-state (if the farmer lets you).
