i put up a pellet gun for sale on craigslist and they flagged and removed it twice. i know their policy says no weapons, but a air gun isnt even a weapon is it?

Air guns can be weapons. Read their TOS.

Airsofts pass muster (mostly since it's darn hard to kill anything with a .20g 400fps or less projectile), and some folks do sell by skirting the terminology. I've seen people sell 1911s before as "1911 handheld lead distribution device" and the likes.

Honestly, you're better off going to one of the craigslist like firearms sites and selling it.

This ticks me off to no end. You can't legally sell a firearm or even a pellet gun without getting flagged, but they do nothing about the "escorts" on their site. That's a load of BS.

yea that is bs that they have escorts, yet a bb/ pellet gun is way to dangerous for their site

The problem is not with CL itself, but with the "community" of people who have nothing better to do all day than flag post.

Craigslist has gone downhill since Ebay bought a 25% stake in it.

No, it is just the same as before Ebay took their stake. CL is dedicated to perpetuating their personal political values and that of other liberal San Franciscans. Prostitution is fine; but constitutionally protected things like guns are verboten. Welcome to their world.

E-bay itself has gone downhill a lot...

If e-bay had had a well organized 'Firearms and Ammunition' section, no one could have ever caught up...

Idiots...

YEAH! STUPID liberals! REDS! COMMIES! HOW DARE THEY???

Ok, let's think for a second.

BB guns/air rifles/etc are considered firearms in some states, like New Jersey.

Since Craigslist has moderators, they are legally responsible for any activity on their site. That is why some image hosting sites, like imgur, do not have moderators so they cannot be responsible for chidl porn etc. posted while others do. I don't understand the specifics of this but if you want this explaination talk to a guy named MrGrim on Reddit.com

Anyways

If a guy in Missouri sells a pellet rifle to a guy in a place like NJ, and it comes to light that said transaction was on Craigslist, they're in a world of legal trouble. They don't want the risk so they ban the sale of weapons.

And FYI, 44 states law enforcement agencies have a coalition against Craigslist escorts and the site has been cracking down hard with a revamped system for listing them. It's by no means clean but a lot better.

It's funny how so many gun owners are all into property rights, and being able to do what they want with their land, or car, or guns, or whatever, but when it comes to their opinions on how others should do with their property, they're worse than most liberals I know. Craigslist doesn't wanna sell weapons. Their site. Their rules. Their way. Tough.

Besides, theres a whole bunch of gun sale boards, why even visit a dump like Craigslist?

THE DARK KNIGHT, I'm much of your mind. But discrimination is discrimination.

If the public is allowed to walk in, or use in the case of a website, kicking someone out because of race, gender, or gun is imho no different. Legal activity is legal activity. If a bar doesn't someone because their race or carrying a gun, then they should switch to a private club. Imagine craigslist from blocking minoritys from posting. They can't just say "we reserve the right to deny service to anyone" -- that's race supremacy like stuff.

I was happy to see that black gentleman OCing an AR15 in AZ iirc. That's probably the best PR I've seen for gun rights in recent times.

But a privately owned place, or website, IS PRIVATE. It's their place, they don't want gun sales, or guns carried, too bad, find somewhere else.

The craigslist out here in NV if you post anything some guy, not a moderator or administarator flags your post, alot of people trade on backpage.com which is alright.

CL has jumped the shark. Aside from the bots flagging everyone, there are other bots creating fake ads and still more bots responding to any ad you're fool enough to post. The last time I tried to sell something there I got hit with two Nigerian offers within seconds of posting. Only the bots, the scammers and the marks go there now. Avoid it.

Thankfully there are a lot of alternative, gun-friendly classifieds in most localities that have sprung up. We have three in the Anchorage area alone.

Well, that's Craigslist for you.

There are lots of folks "on disability" who stay home all day and do nothing but play CL Cops. It makes them feel powerful. THere's lots of cranks and stiffs and scammers out there.

Basically, use CL as a bulletin board, if you list something, do not use the email response function, make it a no reply listed ad, and put a cell phone number in the ad for all responses. That eliminates 98% of the spam and scams.

I personally do not even bother responding to CL ads that do not have some way to contact the seller that is a "real" contact- like a phone number.

I buy and sell a variety of things on CL and find that generally the people who bother to call are at least real people, and the sniff test eliminates most of the scammers from then.

As far as guns go- I've bought shotguns and a HiPoint carbine through CL. You just have to watch a lot and write down the contact info before it is flagged. I've gotten reloading gear, lead, lots of stuff but you have to be quick.

Their house, their rules- but I've also seen things like a "'A K47 Model 762X39 Organizer with wood furniture and folding towel rack, includes 3 inboxes that hold 30 documents each."

I keeping hearing folks wail and moan about Craigslist, eBay, PayPal, Walmart, Cabela's, the price of melons......
This is the United States of America; where you have freedom of choice for most purchases. If certain policies tick you off so badly that you have to whine to total strangers on the internet about them, just stay away from those places. Perhaps then you'll feel better?

So, and I do mean this seriously, you believe a privately owned place should be allowed to refuse service to blacks?

Just looking for for clarification on your position. To reclarifiy my position, discrimination of a law-abiding citizen is discrimination regardless of how politically correct or incorrect it may be at the time. Unless there is some initial membership requirement, like a private club, then there is no difference between refusing service to a black man or a white man with a gun on his hip (or perish the thought an armed black man (sarcasm)).

There is no public admittance at my home, so I can choose to allow you to enter or not and under want conditions or requirements. My (theoretical) ice cream parlor does allow public admittance, and it would be just as absurd to refuse service to a law-abiding black man than to an armed law-abiding man.

I have a hard time understanding how in a public admitted area RKBA could be legitimately infringed, ceteris paribus. I have a hard time understanding the politically correct racism of the past too though.

I agree with this although I don't see anything wrong with calling them names for it. :D Most people aren't saying they should be forced to sell guns on their site....they're just saying they are a bunch of hypocrites. They can allow people to sell or not sell anything they want. It's their site. If they don't want the liability issues of dealing with firearms (want ads across the country seem to have no issues with that though), I find it strange they would be willing to risk the liability issues with blatant prostitution. They are really some strange people running that place.

It's very simple.

Craigslist, just like nearly every other website, has a set of rules you agree to abide by when you post there. The rules don't have to make sense, or conform to your particular world view, or anything else. They exist because those who run the website find them useful for whatever reason.

If you don't like the fact that Craigslist won't let you sell guns, or air rifles, or whatever, then don't go there. There are plenty of other websites available that would be happy to have your business.
