what was one of the best deals you've encountered in the firearms world?

For me it involved a cheap surplus rifle...but hey, I love the smell of packing grease

Recently while at work, a regular customer and member of my state's militia came in needing a new pack for a weekend training exercise. He asked if he could trade his recently purchased mosin for a 3-day assault pack. I told him that i was not allowed to make such a decision, but i cleared up a deal with the boss. I purchased the pack (with my store discount which is basically our cost) for $48 and change. I handed him the pack and he handed over his mosin after we wrote up a bill of sale. Of course i already had a laminate stock mosin, but another one for under 50 was too good to pass up. I know, it just a mosin, but to each his own.

Okay, this one is rediculous:

I saw a Johnson M1941 (WW2 rifle USA) on sale for $329. Not bad for a genuine military firearm. It's rather obscure, so here's some info:

I am a sucker for historic and era firearms, and that seems like a steal. I'm curious, was it defective or flawed in any way?

OK how about a Savage model 24 in .22 over 20 GA for $20. About 5 years ago I was at a local yard sale and spied this rifle in the corner leaning up against a table. I ask the lady how much it cost and she says $20. So I explain that it is worth more that that and offer give her more for it. She laughs at me and says it belonged to her worthless EX and she wanted to sell it for that so she could tell him next time she saw him that all she could get for it was $20 and she used that $$ to buy a good steak for lunch that day. Said that would really T him off when she told him and smiled a cute little smile to me.:banghead: I actually felt sorry for the guy after listening to the woman talking to some other people about some other items she had "won" from him after I had made the deal and was browsing around for more stuff there.

Jaw on the floor now lol. Suprised that she didn't want anything more for it. Love makes you do crazy things, but a p****d off woman gets you a 1 in 1 million deal I guess lol. poor guy though.

1951 870 wingmaster for 90 bucks because the stock had been spray painted. After a little TLC it'sw near perfect.

a guy i work with overheard me talking about recently buying an ak and asked if i wanted to buy an sks and turkish mauser he had that he never shot anymore. he told me i could have them both and the ammo he had for the sks for 150 bucks. turns out he had like 300 rounds of 7.62 so i bought it up in a hurry. he had bought a case of sks's back in the day and had sold them all but that one and finally decided he didnt want it anymore so sold it off for baically nothing. 2 real good shooting guns

In 2005-06 I bought 4 K31's for $80 apiece. All are in very good condition.

Around the same time I got 3 Mosin Nagants for $30 apiece. One has a cracked stock, but...so what

Several weeks ago I purchased a Browing Hi-Power (Made in Belgium) and a Ruger Bearcat at an estate sale for a total of 400.00. Both firearms were in new unfired condition, but very dirty etc. The seller and I split the transfer fee.

After a little TLC it'sw near perfect.

That happens.

Not nearly as good a deal, but I picked up a Benelli Super 90 a while back for less than half the going rate. I was told, "it's a police gun and they shot it all to h-ll." Look in the bore: no chrome at all.

Well, take it home, clean it...and a little chrome appears. Then more. Finally, a pristine barrel...well protected by layers and layers of plastic fouling.

I figure the PD never cleaned it, and sold it when it stopped working. Good as new, now.

About 4-5 years ago this Model 14-3 was listed on GunBroker. Shows some scratches and holster wear but function is perfect. Starting price was $100 and that's what I paid as the only bidder.




In 2000 the Price, Utah PD dumped about 100 Model 19s on a local dealer for resell. All were priced at $265. Amongst all the K frames was this 3.5" Pre-27 with the same price tag. Should have bagged a couple of the 4" 19s while I was at it.




Stopped at a gun shop on my way to a gun show back in 1999. Picked up this 4" 22 D'back that looked unfired for $265.




Got to the show and a pawn shop dealer with a table had this 38 D'back tagged at $225. I cavalierly offered $180 and he took it.




This was on a table at a local show priced at $100 because the action was frozen. Poured some solvent through it to flush out all the congealed grease and it worked fine.




Got this for $12.50 at a police auction. Was a total wreck. Installed new sights, replaced missing parts, refinished wood and blued metal at home. Total investment is about $24. Drives tacks.




$200 at a local show. Well worn but shoots like a Python.

I had a friend with an FFL before he left California for Arizona. I think the best deal I got from him was a Chinese SKS - for $75! I also got a Chinese Makarov off of him for $125. He was willing to sell me a brand new one, but I choose his lightly fired Makarov since I knew it functioned ok and was significantly smoother since it was broken in.

Colt Combat Commander, series 70 (with 80BS serial number), Krieger Accu-Rails, Bar-Sto barrel, beavertail, and a beautifully tuned-trigger. Saw it under the glass at my LGS, but the owner wasnt aware his wife had put it out on consignment. I asked to see it and, when he looked at the price tag she had affixed to it, he was pretty upset because without hesitation I said; "I'll take it".

The price tag: $350.

I bought a Norinco SKS, almost numbers matching, for $150 a few months ago. Not that good of a deal but most sks's I see are at least a $100 more and mine looked unfired.

I got a Marlin Golden 39-M for about $20 a few weeks a go. It was my Uncle's and he is not a gun guy. This rifle had been sitting in my grandparents closet for 15-20 years so when my Uncle came down to visit I asked if he wanted to sell it, and he told me I could have it. I got him a 12 pack of his favorite beer as a thank you.

It was definitely not defective. It was just uncommmon, not famous, and nobody wanted to buy it. Well, I did have to give it a big stripping and cleaning and relubrication before it worked consistently.

and a 336w with a leapers scope on raised rings for 110. Bout 200 rounds of 30/30 with a nylon carry belt. And 100 rounds 8mm mauser

Guy walks in with an 80% 1919 receiver and a complete parts kit, and asks how much to have us build it into a semi-auto for him. We work out the labor cost, explain the process, etc.

We ask him if he wants a custom serial number since we have to put one on anyway. Guy states that he wants a sterile gun - no name, city, state, or s/n. We tell him we can't do that - as the manufacturer legally we have to mark the gun.

Guy gets upset and starts to stomp out, yelling that "all of us manufacturers are trying to rip him off" (he'd asked others to do the same and got told no).

We tell him to take his stuff. He tells us to keep it. We type up an abandoned property receipt, have him sign it, and he leaves.

That gun's on Form 2 now as a postie.

I bought my lowly thought of Sigma 9VE for $200 OTD NIB and also got the rebate or could have taken the mags. Best firearm new deal I ever got. Yeah I fussed around with the Sigma,,, made it mine. Broke a extractor after 5k rounds + of my own reloads. Screw S&W and there warranty. I bought a new extractor from Numrich. Fitted it up and 10k rounds latter it's better than the OEM part.

The best firearm purchase I've ever had the pleasure of making.



One hell of a $200 shooter. The best OEM barrel I've ever had the pleasure of owning.
