Does anyone know where we can find national or state statistics of crimes committed, grouped by offender occupation? I frequently hear about statistics for crimes committed by CCW holders, and how they compare to the general population. I wondered how they would compare to police officers, the ones that everyone agrees should be allowed to carry.

I'm not LEO bashing by any means. I'm interested in the hard data to send to my state reps and hopefully get CCW passed in Illinois.

I've been pulling stats from DoJ, FBI, etc for close to 20 years and have never seen any that listed the do-bads occupation. I guess mainly because it's assumed that the title is "Criminal." What you will find is data on race or gender of both the victim and the perp. You will also find that Chicago refuses to provide the FBI data on homicides unlike most other large cities. Both the FBI Uniform Crime Reports and the DoJ SourceBook give crime data by state and city. This can be found online or ordered in either printed or DVD format. I've taken to using the online data. You can also get rough mortality data from CDC WISQARS system. This data can be broken down into age groups and race.
