Maybe if people who owned weapons were required to own a gunsafe alot of guns would be out of ciminal's hand..then again maybe not.

Yep. HCI employee or Michael Moore incognito.

I think the answer is "all of the above".
So long as you have guns you have the chance that guns can be stolen (from civilians or cops), imported, bought illegally, inherited or given as gifts, even built from scratch.
Im sure if the true number of functional and illegal firearms in any city was ever known, it would be fairly alarming to the authorities.

Point of it should be to drive home the notion that the average criminals access to firepower has been anything but controlled for the last few decades.

I can understand being home with some time on your hands and posting here a bit, I do the same thing myself. It's just that the Penguin went from new member to senior member in about 4 days, his average is slowing down, but I wouldn't compare his posts to yours by a long shot.

I wish I could see things so reasonably! You give this a different perspective, for me at least

I did not vote, cause this line PISSES me off.

"careless gun owners who leave fireams accesible to theft"

Accesible to theft?
Some low life dirt bag breaks into my home and steals from me makes me bad!

How about the piece of crap that broke into my "HOME", HELLO, illegal activity.

So I guess you would be a bad person because some @$$ho!# robbed you of your cash and bought drugs.

:fire: :cuss: yea I`m PISSED, can`t you tell? :banghead: :banghead:

I didn't vote either. The poll was definately slanted and I question Penguin's motives. Nuff said.

Sadly, I've gone past the questioning phase. But I'll let him speak for himself:

Thanks for the welcome and for the nod...but I do not believe every person does have a right to be armed. I know every supreme court decisions agrees with me also. As far as some people considering it a "god given right" there is no such thing. Any right you enjoy in organized society is granted by your fellow man.

That is PlayboyPenguin's own quote.

I couldn't vote for any of the poll choices. As pointed out, published facts show they're all incidental sources.

OTOH, "Way too many "have you stopped beating your wife" questions." was good for a laugh.

You left out the real main source: second tier criminals who will do anything for money/drugs including committing straw purchases.

Bingo. The pole is flawed. Did not answer.

The question is posed in such incomprehensible non-grammar that I dare not attempt to respond.

Sorry. I can't answer a question I can't understand. That's just me.

86% by illegal means: Theft, or purchase from thief by one who's legally unable to buy from licensed dealer. Majority of remainder legally acquired long before becoming involved in some criminal act.

Said it before..will say it again.

How sad it is that some people are so intellectually frightened by an opinion that differs from their own that they must immediately call someone a troll or accuse them of not being legit instead of correcting them if they are wrong or at least put forward a valid argument against their point. How very, very sad for those people and for the gun movement they supposedly support. In this case it was merely a question that frightened them so badly. I even stated in a couple posts i was trying to add different choices or reword some choices but did not know hot to do it and even asked if anyone else did know.

You ignore valid arguments, postulate ignorant theories, ask ignorant questions, and spew stuff that would make Sarah Brady want to shake your hand. I have at least addressed all your posts in a point by point line by line manner. You can't seem to do anything other that act...well...ignorant and spray and pray with your keyboard.

How in blazes would you know anything about "the gun movement"? All I've seen from you is either completely inane or actively ignorant, if not bordering on the antis leftist leanings.

How about THIS suggestion. THINK before you type, if you are indeed what you say you are. You have gone much too far with the things you've posted for me to believe that you ARE what you say you are. I do think you are thinking, and what you are thinking is how best to post divisive drivel.

Ain't nobody "frightened" by your little trolls. Calling a turd a turd doesn't mean someone fears turds.

When have you ever made a valid point? All I see from you are attacks on anyone you confront. Make a point or just keep ranting...makes no difference to me.:)

Correct me if I am wrong, but

shady/unscupulous dealers who sell on the side for profit

Aren't there some rather harsh penalties to prevent this ? :scrutiny:

Any " shady/unscupulous " types would be out of business rather quickly methinks. :banghead:

This isn't even a good topic for a poll, as the answer is a set of numbers. It isn't a matter of what I "feel" about where criminals get their guns.

Several times. I'm sorry if English gives you problems, but it's my native tongue. Here's one I made in this thread that you have done the Klinton two step around. EVERY firearm manufactured or imported into this country is required by law to have the serial number stamped on it, and documentation from the factory that produced it. You mumbled something about the number of fines levied since they changed the laws in "93-94" and promptly dropped that line when I pointed out to you the fact that this numbering was required by the passage of the GCA of 1968. You then mumbled some more tripe about some English made .22's that blew up as often as they were fired from back in the seventies to another poster, but could cite no more than your own fecal remants as proof of where that little gem may have come from. Even that august cite came only from your own self admittedly faulty memory. "Does anyone remember what the name of that company was?" Yet another leftist two step. Thing is, too many folks have seen that particular dance for too long to not recognize it, and it's catching up to you. These are two valid points which you have evaded or ignored...I can supply as many more as you might crave. Just let me know when you want them.

All I see from you are attacks on anyone you confront. Make a point or just keep ranting...makes no difference to me.:)

And your in that point was?????

.

I would say theft is the way most criminals end up with firearms, and the buying such firearm. Followed by straw purchases.

I didn't vote because they way you word the only choice that has to do with theft. "careless gun owners who leave firearms accessible to theft"

Yes, I secure my firearms, I secure them in a safe, in a locked closet and in my LOCKED HOME! Don't blame me or any gun owner because some POS criminal broke into my home/car and stole my weapon. I would imagine the majority of law abiding citizens who had firearms stolen had them in a place where the criminal shouldn't have been.

The whole way you word that one choice is similar in ways stinks of the "it's not my fault" excuse. It's not my fault some guy left his pistol in his nightstand. It's not my fault I had a hard life which lead me to a life of breaking into other peoples homes so I wouldn't have to make something of myself...just not my fault.

Excuse me, but I'm not "intellectually frightened."

I'm "offended."

The two concepts are _quite_ different. Unless, of course, one is on the side of academia which assumes that it is always correct.

Hmpff... I postulate several theorem...

a) You want to learn about firearms, and the attendant gun culture, and you are merely an ignorant product of our mass media and government education.

b) You're a bored teenager.

c) You wish to demonstrate to someone how idiotic those people who live in the hinterlands are.

d) b, c, and maybe a coupla others yet to be named.

I pretty much favor choice "d."

Now, of the offchance that I'm wrong, here's the drill... You're sending the wrong message, you need to figure out just what you're talking about, and you need to lurk and read.

For instance...

Police do not "recover" guns - unless there was a gross instance of police misconduct (ohmigawd - you'd _never_ hear about that one...), they never had 'em to start with, so how can they recover 'em? This is a "nice" way of saying "we confiscated 14 guns from the two guys who had a half ounce of pot in one of 'em's car out in the parking lot."

They also do not "buy back" guns. Unless they had 'em to sell in the first place.... hmmm... See the first point's mention of police misconduct... This is "let's convince granny that she'll be better off without her .38 when the crackhead next door decides he wants into her medicine cabinet."

Now, I actually know, face to face, a few members... And I'm no more than a couple of degrees of separation from a few more.

Now... either lurk and learn, and judiciously share your viewpoints, or be prepared to back 'em up.

If you're a shooter, I'll play you, at your game, and take your money. I'm worst at shotgunning, so if you're a duck hunter, you may have a chance.
