Crimping 9mm Not Required?

It’s one of the flame-thrower topics of reloading. Concentricity, crimping, annealing, primer cup dimensions, maximum loads as starting loads (a.k.a. Manual Discrepancies, etc.), printed manuals vs. online “data” - never minding of course most of the proponents of using online data exclusively don’t seem to know the meaning of the word, “data.” And, of course, the ever-popular, “Do you clean brass the same way I do or are you doing it all wrong?”

Buttons. Some folks got ‘em. :)
You left out "headspace" and "shoulder bump". Two of my favorite popcorn topics.

Waiter! More popcorn, please!

I do know it’s just people sharing their experiences, trying to be helpful but, dang if sometimes it doesn’t come across as, “There’s two ways of doing things…” etc. That’s why I tell folks, don’t do what I do. Just because it works for me doesn’t mean it’s going to work for you. But since you asked, here’s what I do…

And popcorn is a whole grain so it’s good for you!:D:thumbup:

The Lee FCD gor 9MM does not use a collet, it Taper “crimps” just like any other 9 MM taper crimp die, and also has the carbide insert that “irons out” the round. The insert would also take care of any flare left over after seating.

Absolutely correct. I would have sworn my 9mm Lee FCD had a collet-type arrangement, but it must have been just my rifle caliber FCDs. I'm sorry to add more chaff to the thread....

Summarizing post #1: Hey everybody! Look at what I invented! It’s round and you can roll it! I call it, “a wheel.”

They do make some in handgun calibers, but don’t come standard with the die sets, .357 Mag etc.
