I had an idea for my S&W 625. Right now it's a box-stock 5" model, as seen below:

I got the 5" barrel because it looks better than the 4". A 4" barrel with a full underlug on a Smith N-Frame looks blocky. However, the 5" still balances nicely.

But for carrying, (and the 625 is now my working revolver), a 4" barrel is often preferred. Smith & Wesson makes one 4" barrel profile that I really like, and that is the one seen on the 329PD. Observe:

That just looks right.

So, who can I send my 625 to to get the barrel shortened, the front sight replaced, and the barrel machined to mimic this profile?

Also, I've read of replacment sights that allow an N-Frame to have fixed night sights. I forget where these come from. Who makes them?

Thanks!

SDM does a neat job of shortening the barrel and installing a fibre optic or gold bead front sight. I bet he would put on a night sight on request.

It would take a good deal of coordination to make it all match up with a fixed rear sight.

Cylinder and Slide makes the only fixed sight to fit a S&W adjustable cut that I know of. They say to have the tritium lamps installed after the sights are on the gun, that way the front blade can have been filed to zero elevation. They will do the barrel shortening as well.

Modifying the barrel contour to the cosmetic appearance of the PD would be a sizeable one-off custom job and would probably add a lot of cost for no functional result.

Meprolight makes night sights for S&W revolvers. They may be adjustable, but they're lower profile.

My big beef with the current sights is that they're so sharp that they'd impede draw; the front sight is a snag waiting to happen.

I actually have a friend that's a gunsmith and a machinist. He could do it....unfortuantely (for me), he's got a lucrative job in South America and won't be around.

Though...buying a new barrel and having him work on it, then mailing it to me, that could work...

I was just wondering about the barrel job. I actually like the stock barrel and length. The sights will get replaced as soon as is managable, though.
